Five Four Zero Makes an Impact at DMV Expo 250

<!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Five Four Zero Volleyball Academy is a fairly new club that started last year. It promotes volleyball in the Fredericksburg area. It just so happens that the area code for Fredericksburg is 540. A number of girls who attended the Prep Dig 250 Expo listed [program_tooltip program_id='489547' first='540' last='Volleyball Academy'] as their club. Two of them, <strong>[player_tooltip player_id='397536' first='Aubrey' last='Parker']</strong> and <strong>[player_tooltip player_id='397397' first='Jasmine' last='Williams']</strong> made our top performer list.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Five Four Zero competes in the Old Dominion Region, which is usually dominated by Richmond Volleyball Club, Beach Elite and [program_tooltip program_id='450416' first='East' last='Coast Volleyball Club']. Last year Five Four Zero Volleyball Academy had five of the six age groups from 13-18 ranked in the top ten for the Old Dominion Region, according to Advanced Event Systems (AES). Not a bad start for their first year. </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Other than Aubrey and Jasmine below are some of the other girls who attended our DMV Expo 250:</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id='489855' first='Bella' last='Brienza'] </strong>(libero/defensive specialist) - Bella was one of two players from the class of 2024 who attended this event. She played for Stafford high school, one of 15 liberos vying for the spotlight. From what I saw she passed the ball well and held her own on defense. Evaluating liberos is difficult unless you watch them for an extended period. At the Colgan Jamboree she set for North Stafford running a 6/2. At 5'4" her setting will probably be limited to the back row. She has good hands and at the Jamboree was able to set the ball to all areas of the court. For Club 540 she may be reunited with her North Stafford teammate [player_tooltip player_id='221415' first='Lindsey' last='Canty']. Lindsey ranks number 15 in our class of 2026. They also have frosh [player_tooltip player_id='435745' first='Alyssa' last='Kumah'] on the team, our second ranked player in the class of 2027. Alyssa also earned a spot on the second team of the Commonwealth District, the only frosh to make the first or second team. Another player with potential on that team is [player_tooltip player_id='390169' first='Katherine' last='Russell'], who ranked sixth in the class of 2027 but played for the junior varsity. Next year she should be ready to contribute. Both Alyssa and Katherine played for five four zero last year.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>In our most recent ranking Isabella failed to rank in our class of 2026. However, she did make the watch list. The Expo 250 gave me an opportunity to see her play. I came away impressed with the way she communicates with her teammates on the court, as well as her movement while anticipating the ball in play. She is in constant movement. </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Another area where Isabella impressed was her setting. She showed off some setter hands when she made an out of system set to the outside. When I asked her if she ever thought of setting she said that used to be her position. At 5'4' she lacks the height to play front row so libero may be her best option. At 5'11" she brings the height to play middle. Her teammate, [player_tooltip player_id='397397' first='Jasmine' last='Williams'] was also at Prep Dig and ranks number 49 in our class of 2026. With a good club season Lexiana could make the Colonial Forge varsity next year. The Eagles lost to eventual state champion Langley in the semifinals of the Class 6 state playoffs. They lost the fifth set 17-15 otherwise it would have been them playing in the finals of the State championship against Battlefield. Perhaps next year Lexiana can make a difference.
