Continue ReadingThe gym at Dynasty was full of talent on Saturday morning for the Top 250 expo hosted by Prep Dig. Players traveled from all over the Midwest to display their playmaking ability. Many players stood out over the two hours. Here are my top performers from the morning.
Bailey Bovee – MH/Pin – 2026 – Hinton Community/MVP
I met Bovee early in the day as I recognized her as the player I mentioned in the preview who made the trip from Iowa. Sometimes you can just look at a player and see “it”. That was the case with this player. I know she was listed as a middle but please coaches play her on the pin as much as possible. Her poise and shot selection were elite. I shared a video of a line shot she hit and I just shook my head. She was one of the most athletic players in the gym and will be a huge get for a program when that time comes. I later learned my colleagues at Prep have her as the top player in the class. I haven’t seen any other players and can’t argue with that decision.
Khylie Remimenga – MH/Pin – 2026 – Knob Noster/ PVA
As good as Bovee was, Remimenga was right there with her and I will echo the same sentiment as above, play her on the outside. Her size and length, along with her jumping ability make her a match-up problem. She has a high contact point, which is what you want to see from your hitters. She is above average in her blocking and exhibits pretty good technique. After watching her for a few minutes it was easy to see how she filled up the stat sheet this fall for Knob Noster. I know we just did our first rankings for the class of 2026. Next edition, she’s moving on up.
Maryn Dean Maryn Dean 5'9" | S Bishop Miege | 2027 State KS – S – 2027 – Bishop Miege/ Dynasty
Dean is smooth! She moves effortlessly on the court and her set placement on the day was pretty consistent. She has a motor on her and I loved her leadership on the court. She was very vocal and had good communication with her hitters whom she just met this morning. Her defense in right back shined during the expo and I saw her diving and laying out for quite a few balls. She is a player who made a name for herself today and others will get to know it soon.
Gabby Powell – OH/DS – 2027 – Blue Valley North/ Dynasty
Powell was listed as a DS/L but it was her attack that drew my attention during the day. Not to say her defense wasn’t on point, as she looked really good in drills in the back row but she had success swinging along the front row too. She is an athlete who moves well both laterally and vertically. I was impressed with her swing and live-arm action.
Kalyn King Kalyn King 5'7" | S Holcomb | 2025 State KS – S – 2025 – Holcomb/Southwest Pursuit
Some of the best and most consistent hands on the day belonged to King. In early drill action, her set placement was high-level and allowed her hitters to get good swings on the ball. Another thing that stood out for me was her decision-making. She was wise in deciding where to send her balls and had some good-looking back sets to the opposite. Her defense also wasn’t too shabby on the day.
Khloe Heberle Khloe Heberle 5'4" | DS/L St. Dominic | 2027 MO – DS/L – 2027 – St. Dominic/ Rockwood Thunder
There were many elite defenders in the group Heberle was paired with and she stood out with her solid defensive performance. She was touching everything that came her way. And not just touching, but getting it to location for the setter to still have options. Her anticipation and awareness allowed her to always be a step ahead. I also appreciated her reaction speed, as she made the conscious decision on many occasions to use her hands for the dig.
Madeline Etler Madeline Etler 6'0" | MB St. James Academy | 2027 State KS – MB – 2027 – St. James/ Power ‘]
One of the most aggressive players in the middle of the day was Etler. She is a strong player at the net. It was her blocking in early drills that turned my head. She has good size and reach and presses well over the net when blocking. Offensively, she lets it go and swings through the block. She didn’t look too bad behind the setter on the slide as well. One thing you like from your middle is the ability to demand the ball, and she did that numerous times and used her voice.
Mary Dunn – DS/L – 2026 – Bishop Miege/ PVA
Dunn was in the same group as Heberle and was equally as good in the back row. I liked her platform and grit throughout the day. She has no problem staying in front of the lasers coming her way. She doesn’t flinch and not only takes them right on but passes them to spot to the setter. A thing that stood out also was her block cover. She puts herself in position and stays low and ready. Dunn took some swings on the day but her defense will be wanted by many colleges.
Melanee Murphy – S/RS – 2027 – Mill Valley – 913 Athletics
The southpaw looked good during the expo. She is another setter with good hands and set placement. I liked early on her back sets in drill work. An area in which I thought she separated herself from others was the work to get her feet set and under the ball before making a play. Being left-handed, she showed her ability to take swings on the right side and found success there as well. You can easily see her as a front-row setter who can attack on the second ball as needed.
Sasha Cromer Sasha Cromer 5'11" | S Blue Valley West | 2027 State KS – S – 2027 – Blue Valley West/ Power ‘]
Number 777 was striking gold all day. Cromer has everything you look for in a setter. Size at 5’11”. High volleyball IQ, which you saw with her decision-making. Good hands and sets. Defense in the back row. Aggressive with the setter dump. I’m excited to watch her this club season as she could be the next big-time setter out of Kansas City.
