I really liked this MAVS 17 Elite squad who came in with something to prove.  They went undefeated in their opening day pool with huge wins over MN Select and Iowa United.  An athlete to have on the radar is Maryn Dean, she runs a really quick offense and does a nice job of finding her middles.  This could be a sneaky good team to have on the radar.  She is committed to North Carolina A&T.  

The game moves through the hands of a setter, and this weekend it moved with control through Maryn Dean. Maryn dictated tempo with calm command, distributing the ball pin-to-pin while reading blockers in real time. Her decision-making under pressure was advanced — utilizing back row options, running quick tempo in transition, and maintaining offensive balance even in out-of-system plays.

What separated Maryn was her leadership in tight moments. When rallies stretched and rotations tightened, her composure never wavered. She communicated clearly, directed traffic, and kept her team steady. During her senior season Dean finished with 525 assists in 90 sets played. She has already recorded 2,020 carreer assists in three season for the Stags. She knows how to play clutch voleyball on the big statge as Bishop Miege as qualified for the State Tournament three seasons in a row. She is ranked No. 28 overall and is the No. 9-ranked setter in the Class of 2027.

Bishop Miege’s Dean is a talented athlete ranked No. 28 overall in the Kansas Class of 2028. In eleven sets played this season, she has recorded 69 assists and 23 digs. The Stags will be playing in Pool A and open their morning against Hayden. If I see the Stags play, it will be in their second match of the day against Spring Hill.

If Jefferson West’s Harriet and Emmie Dean Emmie Dean 5'6" | OH/DS/L Jefferson West | 2028 State KS had another volleyball-playing sister, Bishop Miege’s Maryn Dean Maryn Dean 5'8" | S/DS/L Bishop Miege | 2027 State KS could play the part. I have to continually double-check her school in the rankings, as I often think of the Jeff West Deans when I first see her name. She had a standout season for the Stags last fall, collecting 1,028 assists. She is a natural athlete who helps out Bishop Miege in all facets of the game. Her sophomore stat line included 67 kills, 59 blocks, 55 aces, and 219 digs. She is currently ranked No. 25 overall and the eighth-ranked setter in the Kansas Class of 2027.
