Continue ReadingAlthough we won’t finish our holiday-themed article series by the end of the calendar year, we’ll continue to make it fun. I found seven more setters we haven’t mentioned in a while (if at all), and all seven are from different clubs. Here they are, separated by graduating class.
Class of ’25
Of the seven listed today, none have seen more accolades than Kaitlyn Kuckkan Kaitlyn Kuckkan 5'7" | S Lafayette Central Catholic | 2025 State IN (’25, 5-8, Lafayette Central Catholic, Rev). With an older sister on the roster at Valparaiso, she’s got the next-level gene. She also brings with her high and accurate hands, fast feet, a willingness to play defense, and a number of postseason accolades that outnumber the rest on this list combined. A for-sure plug-and-play starter at the next level, her determination is emphasized by the fact that her commute to club practice is nearly two hours one way. Ava Whitmore Ava Whitmore 5'6" | S Mt. Vernon | 2025 State IN (’25, 5-7, Columbus North, Academy) is another plug-and-play option, but for different reasons. Ava has deception in every part of her game, from whom she’ll set to sending the ball over on two. I’m a big fan of Miss Whitmore simply because she maximizes what she has and seeming improves every season. Speaking of maximizing one’s talent, Briana DeJesus Briana DeJesus 5'6" | S Crown Point | 2025 State IN (’25, 5-6, Crown Point, Epic) simply plays bigger than her frame, and should have solid recruiting attention throughout this spring. Her high hands and quick feet get her to every pass, and she makes every ball hittable no matter where it’s passed.
Class of ’26
Keira Dommer Keira Dommer 5'8" | S Fort Wayne Concordia Lutheran | 2026 State IN (’26, 5-8, Concordia Lutheran, Summit) has been the setter for FWCL since her arrival at the school, and has already amassed 1700+ assists in her time there. She understands what a fast offense looks like, runs one of the more consistent slides of any setter in any class, and has a high volleyball IQ. Reese Blanchard Reese Blanchard 5'10" | S Brebeuf Jesuit Preparatory | 2026 State IN (’26, 5-10, Brebeuf, Munciana) is a recent transfer from Academy, and will now go up to Yorktown for her training. Accurate and quick, Reese was the 5-1 setter in a rebuilding year for the Braves. Despite the lack of attacking options this past fall, Reese is still in line to dish out 2000 career assists. Her athleticism and relentless attitude toward the game will carry her far this spring.
Class of ’27
Kassidy Merk Kassidy Merk 5'4" | S Terre Haute South Vigo | 2027 State IN (’27, 5-4, Terre Haute South, COA) has attended our showcases, and has made immediate impacts upon her arrival at THS. Although undersized, Miss Merk has the potential of being part of a 6-2 at the next level. She defends her position well, gets to every ball, and makes the ball she sets better than when she received it. Calista Pence Calista Pence 5'8" | S Avon | 2027 State IN (’27, 5-8, Avon, Circle City) has spent most of her time on the JV squad in her young high school career, but is already showing glimpses of her abilities to produce at the next level. Her size helps—-her long arms make her look taller than she is, and she can get to tight passes that some other smaller setters can’t.
