We got to see some really great athletes this weekend but what always catches my eye (or my ear) is the player that is in constant communication with those around them on the court. Communication is a key piece to being an effective teammate and something I look for as a coach. It's even more impressive when you are playing with people you have never met before. Here are some of the players that came ready to chat!

Communication is a key piece to being an effective teammate and something I look for as a coach. It's even more impressive when you are playing with people you have never met before. Garcia was not only talking a lot but her communication was positive and effective. She has some seriously quick reactions and ability to read the other side of the net. Garcia was seen encouraging other players and strategizing during play.
Johnston hits a wicked slice down the net and is solid in serve receive. She is a serious firecracker that electrifies her entire court with her constant chatter and energy. Johnston can also play some great off blocker defense.
Evaluations are normally subscriber-only but when an athlete subscribes, theirs becomes free for all readers.
Subscribing doesn't change who the Scout covers, it changes who gets to see it.
More than once I heard Friedrichs cheering on other players or giving high fives and sharing words of encouragement. She also creates nice clean angles in serve receive and has a heavy arm. Friedrichs does a great job using the top of the blockers hands.

I can’t talk about awesome communicators without mentioning Peterson. She was constantly talking on the court and cheering when she was off the court. Players were feeding off her energy and it was raising the level of play wherever she went.

West is a great communicator and guides her attackers to the open spots on the court. She also gets her hands on everything no matter what number contact it is. West is not afraid to go after the 1st or step in for the 2nd. If someone hesitates on the 3rd she will take it.

Werwie makes nice adjustments during play and does a really great job communicating those. She strategizes and guides those around her when she has the best view point. Werwie also does a good job controlling a hard driven attack.
