Club season has officially started and the chase for a bid begins!
This week marks the start of the qualifier season for many teams across the country with the Northern Lights Qualifier taking place in Minneapolis. There’s been a few bids taken already in the 18s division but for the rest of the age groups, NLQ marks the first go-around.
With all of this talent on display, there’s still quite a few uncommitted dandies left in the 18 Open. We’re highlighting a few that deserve some attention going into the qualifier weekend.
Avery Woodard – Michigan Elite
This player has really become a fixture for this Michigan Elite team for several years now. Traditionally seen as a setter, Avery Woodard is making the jump to DS/L duties for her final go. This is going to be no hard jump for this hidden gem. As a setter, Woodard was easily one of the top defensive players in that position amongst her peers. She’s scrappy and plays with a lot of range. Her versatility makes her a dangerous steal for any program that gets her.
Hady Pickard – A5
Looking at a few more DSs coming into the weekend. Hady Pickard is another one that deserves some good attention. Coming from the A5 cannon, you know you’re getting a quality product. She’s surrounded by a plethora of elite hitters which makes her job look so easy when in competition. A5 is the current nine seed for the tournament, but with Pickard, they could find themselves amongst the final teams looking for the bid.
Emory Brosnahan – Kairos
Playing up an age group is no easy task, but Emory Brosnahan may become a crucial cog for this Kairos team. Brosnahan is coming into the weekend with a lot of momentum. She’s hitting a really promising stride in her play and seems to be hitting on another level throughout the last few months. Brosnahan is a 2025 left side attacker and one of the lone players on this squad still uncommitted.
Saige Martin – Michigan Elite
From one Michigan Elite player to another, this is another super dangerous steal for any team. In her one and only club season, Saige Martin has already started off the season making serious waves. She’s an athlete that can wave between the middle and right pin. On the right pin for Elite, she was one of the most efficient scorers despite only playing in the position for under a month. I expect as the pieces for Elite come together, this team becomes even more dangerous.
Sydney Guthard – Premier Nebraska
Another DS to grace this list, this another one that people cannot overlook. A huge presence on the court for Premier Nebraska, Sydney Guthard could easily slot into the libero jersey with no problem. Mostly seen in middle back, Guthard covers a ton of ground. Small and mighty, she creates a really fun 1-2 punch defensively, alongside Faith Frame
Kendall Heger – MKE Sting
This MKE Sting squad has cemented itself as a powerhouse in this age group for years now. In one last go-around as a group, they bring on another really exciting piece to their puzzle. Kendall Heger joins this squad and one of the only ones to remain uncommitted. Something that’ll likely change very soon, Heger is a player that is coming on quite strong as of late. She boasts a heavy arm and gives this team some great depth!
