With this comes watching hours upon hours of film, and we always make note of players who impress us. Some of these athletes don’t move up in the rankings significantly enough to warrant a spot in our “Stock Risers” series. Some of these athletes are more under-the-radar recruits we anticipate will make significant strides in their game. Whatever the scenario, we still feel these athletes mentioned below deserve an opportunity to be spotlighted on our site, which is why they have been coined an ‘emerging star.’ They are poised to make major headway and see a significant amount of court time this club season. And all are worthy to be on your list to watch out for.
Godard was a major piece of the Tigard High School varsity lineup this past season. As their primary middle, she received Three Rivers League Honorable Mention for her play. She is terminal on a multitude of set plays, but the slide might be her most deadly. As a blocker, Godard is technically disciplined and takes away a lot of space. She is poised to carry a major load for the OJVA 16-1 Gold team this season.
Highlights
Hefeneider had a breakout sophomore campaign for Jesuit High School. Running a 6-2 during the State finals, her play was vital in the team securing the 6A State championship. Her ability to stay calm under immense pressure was noted, staying consistent throughout the match. Hefeneider has soft hands and sets with a quick tempo. She will be playing for Athena 16-1 Gold this club season.
Zuccolo shouldered a massive load all around for the junior varsity team at powerhouse program Jesuit High School. Coming into the club season, Zuccolo will be playing up an age division and setting for OJVA 17-1 Gold. Technically, she exhibits sound footwork and consistent set location. Incredibly athletic with impressive leaping abilities, she can swing or set across the front row.
Minnick turned heads in the 1A classification, helping Crosshill Christian to the quarterfinals. She is an athletic and physical right side with a whip of a left arm. This club season she is returning to G3 16-1 where she will shoulder a significant offensive load.
Haury, was a critical piece of Silverton High School’s success this last fall. As one of the Foxes middle blockers, she racked up an impressive 101 kills. For her play, she received Mid Willamette Honorable Mention. Very athletic with good leaping abilities and a quick arm, she is able to terminate. Due to her birthday, she can play at the 15U level and will be returning to NPJ 15-1 National this club season.
A NW Oregon First Team All-League selection, Maulding had a breakout sophomore season as their primary setter. Technically, Maulding is sound, with athletic footwork and a soft touch on the ball. She gets her middles involved in the offense, running them in transition consistently. This club season with OJVA 16-1 Gold she should see significant court time as their primary setter.
Trees was an anchor this past high school season with Nelson, helping the Hawks to a 3rd place finish in the 6A State tournament. Her play earned her a Mt. Hood Second Team All-League nod. She is a dynamic defender, with fast reaction time and all out hustle, she finds a way to keep the ball alive. This club season you can find her on Aspire NW 16-1 Empire.
