Triple Crown was, yet again, one for the books.
The talent on display and the epic match-ups throughout the convention center did not disappoint.
Still reeling from all of the fun, let’s take a look at some of the biggest performers from the tournament. Here are six 16s that you need to keep an eye going on to the remainder of the season.
Eva Long – Legacy
On a team that is always heralded for their outstanding attackers, Triple Crown proved to be the perfect showcase for Eva Long to show off her chops. Long was converting her hitters into scoring opportunities at the best I have ever seen her. Her connections with the middle was top notch and she’s becoming more a part of the offense as she is running it which becomes a dangerous layer for this group to add.
Mallory Matheny – Mintonette
Another emerging talent at the setting position, Mallory Matheny has been touted as one of the top dogs in this class. And for good reason. This Mintonette squad is as polished as it they come, and it’s all to the credit of Matheny’s decision-making. The finals versus Legacy was such a great brawl between two of the top guns of the division at the position.
Kinsley Young – TAV
Texas just makes them different. The middle blockers to come out of this state, but specifically, the Dallas area is insane. At the rate that this player is going, Kinsley Young is looking to be another one of those elite players from TAV. Young is already proving herself as one of the most formidable blockers on the scene, while tapping in nicely to her offensive side, scoring at high rates.
Lucy Maloney – 1st Alliance
If there’s one thing to know about 1st Alliance, it is that they’re going to cook up some amazing liberos. In a long line of defensive players, Lucy Maloney is shaping up to be one of the next greats out of the Alliance cannon. Maloney is fast and sharp on her reads, making this group so efficient when it comes to converting the ball.
Brooke Harwood – Arizona Storm
Man, this class is looking to be a DEEP one at the middle blocker position. And it is because of players like Brooke Harwood that makes this group so promising in the position. At 6’4, Harwood is brute by nature, but her agile nature and IQ takes her miles ahead of what she’s already gifted with. She’s an elite blocker already and puts the hammer down running off of one foot behind the setter.
Taylor Clarke – Dallas Skyline
A high flying lefty with one helluva cut shot, what more could you ask for? Simply, not much. Taylor Clarke was doing her thing this weekend and cemented herself as one of the top dogs on the right side. A live wire for an arm that can cut all of that shots at such an electrifying pace. When Clarke can get good grasp on the ball, there’s nothing else but scoring going on.
