This morning the updated Class of 2025 rankings were posted and this is the first of multiple scouting reports about the updated rankings.
Let me start with some background information. Athletes, coaches, and parents can click on the “How We Rank” story under the “Rankings” menu to learn more about the process of ranking players.
There are two factors that will continue to play a role on how the rankings on Prep Dig Kansas will look moving forward. The first is that hitting prospects and setters will have an edge in the rankings. Having talked with several college coaches in Kansas, they have made it quite clear that they need a deeper pool of hitters to scout and recruit. Secondly there will be an improved balance of players from all over the state in the rankings based on location and school size.
I do use high school stats to help separate players. If I can’t find stats on a player on Max Preps, X accounts, or from coach emails that can hurt a player in the rankings. One factor I DON’T use to determine rankings is whether a club player is on a Power League, Premiere, American, Select, Freedom, USA, American League East, or whatever other club-designation there is. For me an athlete is an athlete, and if multiple-sport athletes need to compete for their high schools, I will NOT punish them if they don’t commit to play club every weekend or play club ball at all. Yet, having said that, the skills between athletes who play club and those who don’t are noticeable and can impact a player’s current ranking.
I have written this before, but I can’t emphasize it enough each athlete controls their recruitment process. If a high school coach does not post stats on MaxPreps then it is the responsibility of the athlete to obtain those stats and send them to scouts and college coaches. Only the athlete can update Hudl profiles and the information on them. If I can’t find a height for a player, I will not include them in the rankings. Also, only the athlete can control what is posted on their social media accounts. What an athlete posts, follows, and how he or she promotes themselves says a lot about the type of person and prospect they are.
While I strive for perfection, I also understand that mistakes and typos happen. If you have questions about the rankings or see a mistake, please feel free to DM me on social media @KSScoutDeck or email me at deckscoutks@gmail.com. Remember you attract more bees with honey than you do vinegar. If you send me a negative or rude email do not expect a reply.
As always keep in mind that Prep Networks scouts do not update rankings on a week-to-week basis. Once an athlete is ranked in a spot, they stay there until the next round of rankings. We do attempt to update the rankings three to four times a year.
There will be multiple reports on the updated rankings this week, and I have started the process of updating the rankings for the Classes of 2026 and 2027, while also creating the initial rankings for the Class of 2028. If you are a coach or player and would like me to consider athletes for rankings hit me up as advised above.
Here is a look at the new top 10-ranked athletes in the Kansas Class of 2025 rankings which includes a new athlete in the No. 1 position and three debuting athletes.
Logan Parks Logan Parks 5'11" | S Blue Valley North | 2025 State #8 Nation KS ,6’0”, S, Blue Valley North
In my opinion, Parks is the top uncommitted talent in the Kansas Class of 2025. Hence her rise to the No. 1 slot. I saw Parks play that fall and she reminds me of current Kansas Jayhawk and former Seaman Viking Cam Turner. Parks can set and hit with the best of them, it’s up to a college program to decide which position it wants to utilize her at. She heads into her senior season with already more than 1,000-kills and 1,000 assists.
Reese Messer Reese Messer 5'11" | S St. James | 2025 State #6 Nation KS , 5’11”, S, St. James Academy (USC)
Messer is an elite setter who has already committed to USC. She has three-straight years of 800-plus assists and will be looking to make it four in a row during her senior campaign. She is blessed with quick hands and a has been surrounded by a talented group of hitters at St. James Academy.
Alea Goolsby Alea Goolsby 5'11" | OH St. Thomas Aquinas | 2025 State #36 Nation KS , 5’11”, OH, St. Thomas Aquinas (Iowa State)
St. Thomas Aquinas’ Goolsby is set to play for the Iowa State Cyclones after high school. She is coming off back-to-back seasons of 300-plus kills and is just 35 kills away from reaching the 1,000-career kill threshold. She can play six rotations as evidenced by her senior totals of 428 serve receptions and 211 digs.
Jillian Gregory Jillian Gregory 6'0" | OH Maize South | 2025 State #66 Nation KS , 5’11”, OH, Maize (Wyoming)
Gregory is an explosive hitter. She finished her senior season with 386 kills in 92 sets played. She is just 16 kills away from the 1,000-career kill mark. She has a sweet approach and a powerful swing. Gregory has been in the Top 10 for a long spell and is headed to the University of Wyoming after high school.
Reagan McGivern Reagan McGivern 6'3" | MB Hayden | 2025 State KS , 6’2”, MB, Seaman (Villanova)
McGivern helped leas Seaman to state title in volleyball last fall. The tall and physical hitter as already committed to Villanova and rose the highest of any athlete in these updated rankings. The Vikings middle blocker has back-to-back seasons with 60 total blocks or more and his 39 away from having 200 career blocks. She is on a stacked Seaman roster so her kill totals from the past two season are somewhat deceiving as she shares the hitting duties in a balanced attack.
Sophia Thompson Sophia Thompson 6'1" | MB Beloit | 2025 State KS , 6’1”, MB, Beloit (Wichita State)
Thompson is the highest debuting athlete in this updated version of the rankings. She debuts in the No. six position in large part to a huge junior season and her commitment to Wichita State. Thompson finished with 177 kills and eye-popping 103 total blocks during her junior campaign. Thompson and the other top talent in Beloit will look to reach the state tournament once again.
Maegan Mills Maegan Mills 6'0" | OH Seaman | 2025 State KS , 6’0”, OH, Seaman (Tulsa)
Mills is a legit hitter and blocker and has already committed to a Division I school. She is a physical specimen who can take over a match at the net. She has back-to-back seasons of 400-plus kills and added 62 total blocks to her senior stat sheet. Seaman is one of two schools with multiple athletes ranked in the top ten and the Vikings will be searching for back-to-back Class 5A State titles.
Jordyn Washington Jordyn Washington 6'0" | MB Andover Central | 2025 State KS , 6’0”, MB, Andover Central
Washington was grossly under-ranked heading into this round of updates. She can jump out of a gym and is a Division I or Division II prospect. She is the second highest uncommitted talent in the Class of 2025. She has multiple schools looking at her and deservedly so. Washington finished with 274 kills during her junior season and has back-to-back season of 50-plus blocks. If I were a JUCO college coach in Kansas I would make a run at her, she could be an All-American at the JUCO level and then move on two a four-year program.
Layla Collins Layla Collins 5'11" | OH Washburn Rural | 2025 State KS , 5’11”, OH, Washburn Rural
Collins is a big-time jumper but is not as well known across the state as other Class of 2025 talents. Washburn Rural does not provide stats to the public, but she can glide through the air and hit down the line and cross court.
Addison Budke Addison Budke 6'0" | OH Beloit | 2025 State KS , 6’0”, OH, Beloit (Nebraska Kearney)
Budke is the second Beloit Trojan in the top 10. She has committed to Nebraska-Kearney and could be an immediate starter for the Lopers when she moves to the Cornhusker State. Budke is going to make a run at the 2,000-career kill threshold. She has three straight seasons of 500-plus kills. Her career high of 679 came as a freshman, so she has a ton of varsity experience. She can play six rotations as she also finished her senior season with 347 serve receptions and 186 digs.
