Scouts certainly saw plenty of players that could help their programs at last weekend’s regional in West Des Moines and Ankeny. I sure did.
Here are seven of them:
At some point I won’t be able to include Passmore in articles such as this one. That point is not today because she remains uncommitted. It’s a head-scratcher. Passmore is a versatile, two-way player at the net. Passmore’s swing is mighty. It’s carries some of the best power in the state. She continues improving her decision-making and defensive identification with it. She owns an impressive vertical jump with good timing, that helps her when hitting and blocking. There’s plenty of room for growth before she reaches her ceiling.
Like Passmore, Rogers is a prospect I’ll keep writing about and promoting until some intelligent college coaches land her commitment. She’s a well-rounded setter that could make quite a few programs better. Rogers consistently sets her teammates where they like the ball so they can do damage. She sees the court well and anticipates the actions of others. She brings height, length and athleticism to the position, too. That makes her a strong defender at the net and dangerous when swinging from the right side. Also, like Passmore, Rogers has a high ceiling.
Hardersen joins Rogers in being one of the state’s top setters. Hardersen is left-handed with height, length and explosion off the court. She swings with power and precision. Hardersen could play right-side in plenty of programs. I think that would be wasting a really good setter, though. She continues improving that part of her game with excellent upside there. Every time I see her play in person, I leave impressed and wondering why there’s not more college attention.
Highlights
Miller was keeping score when I started watching her early-tournament match. Not sure if the absence was injury related. She joined the action after another teammate was injured and played well. That tracked with every other viewing of Miller during the last two years. A dynamic outside hitter, she gets up well, hangs and finishes strong. Miller delivers defensively at the net and holds up well in the back row.
I’m realizing that this list is comprised of kids that have been impressing me with their performances for awhile. I’ve probably scouted Hildebrand more than anyone else on it. I can’t remember her playing poorly. She’s consistently good. That starts with her setting. Hildebrand puts the ball where her hitters can connect. She’s a sound defender at the net and in the back row. She can hit it well from either pin. If she’s still uncommitted the next time I see her play, I’m sure I’ll write about her again.
I’ve probably watched Webber the least of the players on this list. I attended a few of her high school matches in the fall, a few more at the beginning of the club season and again a few times this past weekend. At this point, I’m confident in adding her to this list. She plays up with Adrenaline’s top 18U team and is one of its best players. Webber possesses impressive athleticism, exploding off the floor, hanging and mashing. It aids her defensively as well. She fits on the outside or on the middle on the next level.

I hadn’t seen Brandmeyer play until the opening of club season. I’ve scouted her at three more events since that Six Pack tournament. She’s every bit of the 6-foot-1 at which she’s listed with long arms. She combines those assets with agility and athleticism. The pieces are in place for bright future as she adds strength and improves technique through more reps. Some college is going to be really pleased they gave this kid a chance.
