Let’s take a look at who qualified, what were some of the story lines, and did March really go out like a lamb with a big Easter weekend in Chicago.
1st Alliance flexed on their home turf this past weekend, placing multiple teams among the top four across various divisions. This was the third year in a row the 17s from 1st Alliance won the title. This 17s team, full of some of the top Class of 2025 prospects in the country took home the 17 Open title and punched their ticket to USAV 17 Open in Vegas. They also had top four finishes from 1st Alliance 16 Black, 1st Alliance 16 Red, 1st Alliance 15 Gold, and 1st Alliance 15 Black. Get those flights booked from Chicago to Vegas come July.
Nebraska clubs had a really successful weekend. A lot of these Nebraska teams will be heading to the Show-Me Qualifier this upcoming weekend in Kansas City. Nebraska One 17 Synergy will head to USAV 17 Open in Vegas this summer after finishing in third place this past weekend. They will continue their qualifier schedule at Salt Lake and Dallas this next month. Nebraska Premier had strong finishes with 17 Black winning the 17 USA Division and 15 Gold punching their Open ticket to Vegas by finishing second in 15 Open. Banzai out of Nebraska as well in 17 Liberty and Nebraska One 17 Black was second in 17 USA.
Legacy 16 Adidas got their ticket punched this past weekend after finishing in the final four of 16 Open. This group out of Detroit won the 16s Division of Triple Crown in February and already has two wins over Mintonette m.61 who has two big national qualifier championships so far this season.
MAVS KC 17-1 placed in the top four of 17 Open, getting their ticket to the open division in Vegas come July. They came into the tournament as the 13th overall seed. They went 3-0 on day one, defeating Legacy 17 Adidas in three sets, and snuck through to a day three gold pool after finishing second in a three way tie. They had two wins against Houston Juniors and Rockwood Thunder to grab their bid.
The Tribe 16s have been quite the group this season with their Elite 16 Cardinal and Elite 16 Navy teams being among the top teams at these national qualifiers. They were in both in open bid contention at the Sunshine Qualifier come day three and had the same set up in Windy City this past weekend. Elite 16 Cardinal finished second in their day three gold pool and got their open ticket to Vegas.
The trickle down is coming. This past weekend we had four national qualifiers across the country with Pacific Northwest, Big South, Red Rock Rave, and Windy City. For the open level teams, 12 teams would have punched their tickets (15s-17s). I try to keep up with all the bids, but after weekends like this things start to get a little gray when there are teams upgrading their bids, which their previous bids trickle down to another team in their region or back to USAV to reallocate. What’s next? Plenty of teams will be heading to Kansas City this weekend to take on the Show-Me Qualifier.
