PSVBA 15 Legacy- Nationals Preview: Player Takeover!

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">2027 Pin Peyton Frederick swings away in this Nationals Preview!</h2>   Thank you to Michelle Bamford from PrepDig California and Emma Adams from PrepDig Oregon for inspiring this player takeover!   We kick off a two-week run of Nationals team previews with a new format- a player from each squad has taken the reigns and provides insight into their teammates and the season. Our seventh team is PSVBA 15 Legacy, out of the Puget Sound Region. The team earned a bid to USAV Nationals at the PSR Regional Bid tournament and will compete in the Freedom Division. The team played in the PSR Power league, finishing eighth out of 62 in the 16 age division. She is fun to play with, competitive, and scrappy as they come with her digs and saves, even sending the ball over with her foot to keep it in play!"     From Lingli- "Izzy has been thrown many obstacles this season with injuries, but that doesn't stop her from coming into the gym and working hard. Whenever there is the chance, she'll work on blocking and hitting, taking any opportunity to polish her skills."       From Peyton- "An all-around beast on the court. As one of our outsides Korbyn is fun to watch and share the floor with. From her insane hops and rocket arm swing to her explosiveness in the back row getting wild touches to keep the ball in play, hustle is her middle name."   .     From Peyton- "When she is in the back row, Ema stays cool and collected. Her demeanor on the court is calming yet intense in the best ways. From passing dimes in serve-receive to heads-up defense and rundowns, Ema can do it all. She is also the sweetest person."     From Peyton- "Milly is such a versatile, athletic player. She is a force to be reckoned with, whether creating offense as a middle, hammering down kills from the pin, or nailing consistent passes in serve receive. Did I mention she placed 3rd in the High Jump at the 4A State Track & Field Championships as a freshman?!"       From Peyton- "Netty is an amazing teammate with infectious energy. Her reach is sky high with hops to go with it. She gets the job done with big, momentum-changing blocks and makes hitters think twice before taking swings when she is at the net. She is also one of the funniest people I know.."     From Peyton- "Danielle is a very physical middle; it's fun to watch her power the ball to the floor with her quick, heavy arm swing. She works hard to be available in transition, oftentimes holding a blocker so us pins can swing away. "     From Peyton- "As one of our setters, Bella is a gamer. Her presence on the floor is commanding, and her quickness puts her in a position to better the second ball, setting her hitters up for success. Not to mention, her defense is fire."     From Peyton: "Grace is a playmaker with solid swings from either pin and a jump float serve that is lights out. Seriously, we don't call her “Grace the Ace” for nothing! She is an awesome volleyballer and an even better person."       From Peyton- "As a middle/right side, Leah is one of our hardest workers. Her height is an advantage, and her quick hands over the net produce block after block for our team.  She is one of the most positive people and teammates, earning “most improved” for our team this year."     From Peyton- "As one of our outsides, Taylin's platform makes passing look effortless, and she can place the ball anywhere on the floor from swinging at either pin. Her positive attitude makes playing next to her a joy."     From Peyton- "At DS/Libero Tessa reads the court like the back of her hand. She was chosen as the “coach's pick” (MVP) for club volleyball and acquired over 150 volunteer hours, lettering in community service. Frederick was inducted into the National Jr. Honor Society, elected Associated Student Body President, earned the Social Studies Student of the Year award, and received an Outstanding Academic Excellence award for maintaining a 4.0 in all three years of Jr. High. What is important to you in a college? I have a 4.0 (un-weighted), and I am interested in a major that would better prepare me for a career in either business management or Family Law. When considering colleges, I am open to anywhere location-wise. I want a strong connection with my teammates and a coaching staff that pushes me to be the best I can be as an athlete and human being. I am very competitive and want to go somewhere with a high-energy program where I am challenged but can contribute to the team's overall success.   What do you like to do outside of volleyball? "I like to hang out with friends and stay active, whether riding bikes with my sister or going to the gym. I have family on both coasts, from California to Virginia and Florida, and I love traveling to visit them."   What has been the best moment with the team this season(s)? A highlight of this season was qualifying for Nationals at the PSR Championships, where our team battled for two days to earn a bid.   <figure class="wp-block-image alignright size-large is-resized"><img src="https://prepdig.com/wp-content/uploads/sites/5/2024/06/PSVBA-15-6.jpg?w=694" alt="" class="wp-image-556690" style="width:320px;height:auto" /></figure>         How did you get started in volleyball? Any other sports?   I grew up in the volleyball gym with [player_tooltip player_id='500101' first='Korbyn' last='Hansen'](#3). My Mom and Korbyn's Mom, Jessica Hansen, were college teammates and best friends. They have been coaching together at PSVBA since we were born, and I can remember running around the gym with Korbyn and getting into all kinds of trouble. We sat courtside for many matches or had a little area with games and snacks while our moms coached. We started playing volleyball for PSVBA's “Little's” program, where we learned fundamentals before being old enough to try out for the U11 squad.   I also played basketball in my 7th and 8th-grade years and competed in High Jump, Shot Put, and Javelin for the high school Track and Field team, lettering as a freshman this spring season. Our ERHS girls' Track and Field team won the 4A State Championship! Go, Jags!   How do you work at being the best teammate possible?   Leadership: I have a strong work ethic and communication skills. I enjoy making big plays when my team needs it, creating energy and momentum. I do my best to lead by example.   Intensity: I desire to be the best and am passionate about the sport, so I take it seriously when I step on the court. If a play or a call does not go our way, I aim to earn that next point.   Encouraging: I am my teammates' biggest fan. Many of us have been playing together for years, and I care deeply about everyone on my team, not just on the court. We are a family. I lean on my team to lift me up when I need it, and just like a family, I support them in all they do.     PrepDig Washington on Peyton:   Frederick is an impressive young player with terrific length at 6'2" and an easy arm swing. The 2027 from Emerald Ridge High School has committed to being a complete volleyball player, playing all the way around, showing excellent hands as a setter, and being a willing defender. We had an extended look at Frederick playing the setter spot at the Salt Lake City Showcase; with her length and skill level, it's an intriguing possibility at the next level. She was taking a peek across the net and looking for the right matchups for her hitters, and she moves easily when she has to work to get to the second ball. When she is on the right side, Frederick can rocket a ball down the line or drive a swing at a sharp angle. She has a great contact point and can attack as an opposite behind the 10-foot line.
