Shockwave 16 Nationals Preview: Player Takeover!

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">[player_tooltip player_id='455199' first='Keyala' last='Krumland'] jumps in for this Nationals Preview!</h2>   Thank you to Michelle Bamford from PrepDig California and Emma Adams from PrepDig Oregon for inspiring this player takeover!   We kick off a two-week run of Nationals team previews with a new format- a player from each squad has taken the reigns and provides insight into their teammates and the season. Our first team is Shockwave 16 National out of the Tri-Cities and the Evergreen Region. The team earned a bid to USAV Nationals in Las Vegas by finishing third at the Evergreen Regional Bid Tournament. After that bid tournament, the team caught fire, posting an 18-5 overall record at Regionals, the Salt Lake City Showdown, and the Emerald City Classic. Coaches Stacey Vladimiroff and Brian Vladimiroff and club directors Gary and Cathy Louie have been instrumental in the team's success this season.   2026 Outside [player_tooltip player_id='455199' first='Keyala' last='Krumland'] will take us through the team, and we asked Keyala to answer our own set of questions for an in-depth look at the rising junior from Kamiakin High School. Shockwave 16 National will play in the Freedom Division at Nationals, facing off against a field of 48 teams from across the country. She gets to balls in difficult areas with efficiency and elegance. Her accurate passes allow our setters to move the ball where needed to run an effective offense."       From Keyala- "Bailey's intensity and passion motivate the team to push through tight game situations. She can dish out a beautiful set or dump for a kill when the opponent least expects it. Her positive attitude and firecracker personality keep us locked in the game. She consistently gets us hyped for the next play and digs up some of the hardest hits while making it look easy. Courtney has infectious energy on the court and always has a smile on her face."     From Keyala- "Cali is a well-rounded player. She can serve up an ace when needed, place a kill down the line, or rip it tight angle against a huge block. She is all in every game and goes all out to get to balls. She is a strong defender and has a deep passion for volleyball. She is always cheering both on and off the court. Jocelyn plays with a confident attitude and delivers accurate digs to give setters and hitters offensive opportunities."     From Keyala: "Ellie, our right side, does a fantastic job of being creative with her swings. When we are out of system, Ellie still manages to rip hard-hitting shots with amazing placement, which always leaves the team in amazement and wonder."     From Keyala- "Aliyah adds power and intensity to the game. She also brings hard hits and perfectly placed tips to outsmart the opponent. With just 9 or 10 roster spots available at each age group, this a difficult team to make; she will represent the region in the USA All-Star Championships this summer in Iowa.   Krumland was a key player for Kamiakin High School as a sophomore. Kamiakin won both the MCC and District 8 Championship and earned a birth to the 4A State Tournament. The team was also honored as the Washington 4A Academic State Champions! What is important to you in a college? "I currently have a 3.85 GPA, taking both Honors and AP classes. I am planning to study Business and Marketing in college. I am looking for a college with a strong team culture and community connection. I would love to play college ball in the Pacific NorthWest!"   What do you like to do outside of volleyball? "Volleyball takes up a lot of my free time, but when I am not training, I either create art, write, or spend time with my family. I have been an avid artist since I was a little girl, and I enjoy drawing and other art mediums."   What has been the best moment with the team this season(s)? "We've had a lot of great moments this season on and off the court, but my favorite was volunteering as a team member at Sue's Turkey Drive here in the Tri-Cities. Have you or are you playing any other sports? "I started playing basketball and running for a cross-country club in Fourth grade. I did well in both sports, but I saw my cousin playing volleyball and decided I wanted to give it a try. My mom signed me up for parks and rec the next year, and I fell in love with the game."   How do you strive to be a good teammate? "I have been playing for six years, and I've learned that there will always be moments of stress and moments of success in a game. If you have the strength and integrity to keep a positive outlook, that makes the difference. It's not productive on the court to be angry at each other for messing up because no player is perfect. So, remain humble and empathetic to your teammates because you have been in their shoes before. If you believe they can get the next point, then they will too. Positivity creates a less stressful environment for everyone, and you can perform better to win games. I strive to always be there for my teammates physically and mentally. I have developed this positive mindset over the years, and now it comes naturally to me. I wouldn't be able to be a good player or a good teammate without having a winning mindset that is focused on positivity and is goal-oriented and teammate-centered. You can't play this sport alone; it's impossible, so you better be sure the whole team is just as ready to play as you are. I am supportive, encouraging, hardworking, forgiving, and creative."   PrepDig Washington on Keyala:   Krumland is an extremely hard worker and competes with 110% effort. A six-rotation outside, she has a well-rounded game and can be counted on to make big plays in the front and back rows. Krumland is full of amazing energy and always impresses spectators, coaches, and opponents with her crazy vertical, athleticism, and strength. She will crush a ball between a block, has the nerve to thread the needle down the line, and has the skill to find the deep corner. The rising junior can play the off-speed game with a deep power tip, the roll just over the block, and a hard angle swing that helps her rack up points for the team.
