Who are the best freshmen volleyball players in Texas? We definitely saw some players who wanted that title over the weekend at our Freshman Showcases. The first session was held on Saturday July 27th at the Competitive Edge Training facility in Houston, TX. The one aspect that sets our showcases apart from every other one in the country is how we offer coverage, before, during, and after it is completed. This series of articles will discuss those special players that stood out for various reasons to our court coaches and scouts. They have won our prestigious Top Performer award. Let's meet the winners!

[player_tooltip player_id='580646' first='Alessandra' last='Garza'] [2028] 5-5 Libero (HS: Dobie/Club: Houston Stellar/Verbal: Uncommitted)

Alessandra is currently an unranked prospect in the 2028 Class according to our Prep Dig Texas State Rankings, but that is only because we have not released them yet. She plays volleyball at Dobie High School and plays for the Houston Stellar club volleyball program. Miss Garza put on a great show and impressed her court coaches to earn a nomination for this great honor. Her production on the court definitely had a big impact on why we chose her. You can see the training that she has put in with every dig and pass. My coaching eye is drawn to her footwork and how she does a great split step to balance out her feet prior to contact. This is something that is taught and expected but not all younger players have the discipline to make sure that each rep is done correctly. Miss Garza definitely uses the split step and this is going to make sure that she is very balanced at the point of contact with her platform. She is also a master at playing the ball with her hands and this will help her dig count get higher and higher in each match. We liked what we saw and we think she has a lot of potential Please help us congratulate her on earning a Top Performer award.

[player_tooltip player_id='580648' first='Amiya' last='Bryant'] [2028] 5-10 Middle (HS: Klein Oak/Club: Texas Legacy/Verbal: Uncommitted)

Amiya is currently an unranked prospect in the 2028 Class according to our Prep Dig Texas State Rankings, but that is only because we have not released them yet. She plays volleyball at Klein Oak High School and club for the Texas Legacy volleyball program. Miss Bryant is an absolute beast at the net for any squad that she plays for. There were some amazing players at the showcase, but Amiya definitely stood out for her viciousness with the ball. Her frame is very long and super strong for her young age. When she gets ahold of the ball with no block in front of her, everyone on the other court better watch out because she has a cannon. Her fast wrist snap definitely adds a lot of pop into her attack. I am not sure that there was a more dynamic middle who was able to use her athleticism to move the ball around the block like she was. She is definitely someone who I will keep my eye on because I think she might have what it takes to be a State Ranked player when I release the first rankings for this grad class in a few months. I think everyone should take note of her name now. Please help us congratulate her on earning a Top Performer award at the showcase.

[player_tooltip player_id='580651' first='Aubrey' last='Morrison'] [2028] 5-8 Outside (HS: Brenham/Club: Texas Legacy/Verbal: Uncommitted)

Aubrey is currently an unranked prospect in the 2028 class according to our Prep Dig Texas State Rankings, but that is only because we have not released them yet. She plays volleyball at Brenham High School and also for the Texas Legacy volleyball club program. Miss Morrison is one of those outside hitters who can truly do it all on the court for six rotations. As an attacker, she possesses some great tools, which make her very dangerous. She can fill a stat book in a hurry due to her amazing court vision and how she sees holes in the defense. That vision while she is in the air allows her to look like she is going to swing away and keep the defense on their heels. Then she unleashes some off-speed shots that fall over the block to score. She is not just a shot maker though. This young lady has some power that she unleashes during opportune times that power through or around the block to score for her squad. We witnessed this for the entire two hours of play from her. Not only is she a dynamic point scorer from the pins, but she can pass and play defense very well also. Please help us congratulate her on earning the Top Performer award for this showcase.
