Rankings Update: Class of 2025 Liberos

<p>Coverage of the August 2025 Rankings Update continues<span style="margin: 0px;padding: 0px">. In this article, we focus on liberos.</span> [player_tooltip player_id='181633' first='Victoria' last='Gao'] headlines the Liberos, ranked #5 in the class overall, and the rising senior from Lakeside High School recently committed to Columbia University. </p>   <p>Back-row specialists always have a long wait and must be patient when it comes to college commitments. That patience starts paying off as they settle into their senior seasons and commitments start rolling in. Liberos will continue to field offers until the last possible date before college fall camps start—as a wise coach once said, " If you can pass, you have a place on the team." </p>   <p>Here is a closer look at liberos from throughout the 2025 rankings.</p>   <p></p>     <p class="text-gray-700">The libero from Mt. Rainier checks in as the #2 defender in the class and at #11 overall. Alefaio is incredibly athletic and never quits on a ball that has a chance to be dug up. Her ability to make an amazing save is uncanny, and the NPJ 2025 prospect regularly makes plays that have opposing attackers scratching their heads in disbelief. </p>     <p class="text-gray-700">Joswick is an early commit to Washington State, and she has held that commitment stead through a coaching change and near full roster turnover. The Central Valley defender has built herself into a precise passer and an acrobatic playmaker and continued to improve all aspects of her game this club season. Playing for SNVF, the Glacier Peak standout was tremendous this club season. She will anchor the back line during the high school season, and Dela Cruz has a steady platform and the right mix of enthusiasm and energy to push her team the right way. </p>      <p class="text-gray-700">The Mt. Spokane Wildcat may have a future playing on the sand, as she just took down the 16 Open title at Seaside in Oregon. If not, she can certainly find her spot indoors. She is an excellent passer, and all that beach experience shows up in the moves she makes to keep a rally alive. The Bears will count on her steady passing and acrobatic digs to make a run at the state tournament. Peschel can make plays well outside her area and is comfortable cutting off a serve or swing in the seam if she has a good angle. </p>
