Teams across the state are playing in jamboree scrimmages this week before the first tournaments of the season are played on August 31.

I scouted a match at the first of three jamborees I plan on attending this week.

It was a treat getting into the gym to watch 6A perennial power Washburn Rural compete against Blue Valley Southwest. Then when I came home to write my reports on the match, I watched Junior Blue and Prep Dig Kansas alum Brooklyn DeLeye compete for the Kentucky Wildcats on ESPN 2 against Nebraska.

Here is a look at four prospects who stood out in the two-set scrimmage victory for Rural over the Timberwolves. Stay tuned to Prep Dig for a second report on Blue Valley Southwest athletes with solid performances.

[player_tooltip player_id='386169' first='Layla' last='Collins'], 5'11”, OH, Washburn Rural, ‘25

Collins is ranked No. 9 in the Kansas Class of 2025 and has verbally committed to Washburn University to continue her volleyball career after high school. Collins can really elevate and finished with a match-high 13 kills in the win. Her serve was a differencemaker in the win as she finished with four aces and scored the final two points of the match on aces. She went down the line on the first one and cross-court with the second. She hit both called zones and will be a huge weapon for Rural for the remainder of this season.

[player_tooltip player_id='219739' first='Reagan' last='Lee'], 5'5”, DS/L, Washburn Rural ‘25

Lee was a prospect that I had not seen much of before this match. She is currently ranked No. 213 overall. Prep Dig had her listed as a setter, but she will be playing as a defensive specialist for the Blues this season. The lefty has a quality serve and finished the match with four serve receptions.

[player_tooltip player_id='223572' first='Stella' last='Kelly'], 5'9”, S, Washburn Rural, ‘26

Kelly is currently ranked No. 58 overall in the class of 2026. She is expected to carry the setting load for Rural this season. She has worked hard this offseason to improve her quickness, and it showed in this match. She made a couple of impressive digs that I am not sure she would have got to last season. She communicates well and keeps all of her attackers involved in the match.

[player_tooltip player_id='474088' first='Karsyn' last='Horyna'], 5'10”, MB, Washburn Rural, ‘26

Horyna is one of multiple juniors who will see lots of playing time for Washburn Rural. She is currently ranked No. 33 overall in the class of 2026. I had seen her play during the club season, but this was the first time I had a good look at her while playing for her prep team. She had three kills in the match and closed well on blocks. She still has lots of volleyball in front of her and can improve her stock by adding more upper-body strength.
