The defending Class 5A Kansas State Champion Seaman Vikings held their second day of tryouts as schools in Kansas were allowed to begin practice yesterday.

I scouted the practice to catch up with current ranked prospects and begin honing in on some younger talent.

Here is a look at four Vikings who impressed me.

[player_tooltip player_id='173374' first='Maegan' last='Mills'], OH, 6'0”, ‘25

Mills is ranked No. 7 overall in the Kansas Class of 2025 and has verbally committed to play for Tulsa University. She is smooth and moves like a gazelle on steroids. She is a physical specimen who plans to be a dominant front-row threat once again for Seaman. The most impressive part of her practice was the leadership she displayed and the support she gave to less prepared teammates during the early-season conditioning.

[player_tooltip player_id='349385' first='Ava' last='Esser'], OH, 6'1”, ‘25

Esser is currently ranked No. 96 overall and is one of two Seaman prospects who have verbally committed to play for Johnson County Community College after high school. She is also a tall dangerous hitter. She is not as quick as Mills, but she has a bigger reach and plays with composure. Esser is a talented blocker to boot.

[player_tooltip player_id='514541' first='Harper' last='Hafenstine'], S, 5'6”, ‘26

Hafenstine is currently ranked No. 159 overall in the class of 2026. I was not as familiar with her game heading into the practice as other Viking returning starters. She is a solid setter who allows the Seaman Viking coaching staff to run a two-setter offense if they want. Or she could be a solid backup to returning setter [player_tooltip player_id='219715' first='Campbell' last='Chabot'].

[player_tooltip player_id='492581' first='Lauren' last='Glasgow'], OH, 5'9”, ‘27

Glasgow is currently ranked No. 37 overall by Prep Dig Kansas. When she impacts the ball it makes that special sound that elite hitters make. She is strong as a young bull and has a nice approach. She is a young talent who needs to improve her conditioning and learn to practice with maximum effort. She will compete for one of the final spots on the varsity squad as a sophomore.
