The athlete who rises above the rest and garners the most votes will be honored as our Player of the Week. Meet the Nominees
Reese Japic and the Palo Alto Varsity team took on a very strong Monte Vista High Varsity team at the Bay Area Classic Tournament on Saturday Sept. 14. Reese served 19 straight points to win the match and the game.
Highlights
Last week, Isabelle Baldwin led her team through two strong wins as Denver East starts regional competition next week. As Captain, she rallied the team to sweep both teams last week with strong competition. She led the team with 20 kills, averaging 10 kills per game and a .438 hitting percentage. She also rallied in the back row with two aces and three digs. She dominated at the net on defense as well with four blocks in the two matches.
Highlights
Kora is a junior and has been on varsity 3 years for indoor and beach volleyball. She was named captain this year and was listed as volleyball players to watch by Herald Tribune. This week, she was named East County Player of the Week by Observer Media Group. She leads the team with 144 kills and 242 digs and is tied for the team lead in solo blocks (10) and 4 time Player of the Match Award so far this year. Kora is ranked 15th in Florida.
Abby achieved her 1000th career high school varsity assist on 9/17/2024 against Forth Zumwalt East. This is only her 2nd season setting for Timberland. As a freshman she filled the role of a right side hitter. Her 1000th assist was a one handed set to outside hitter Abby Chall. Abby has committed to set for Baylor University for the class of 2026.

While having a torn labrum, madison contributed over 22 digs in the 4 set match against cottage grove. Along with Over 30 digs from the sisters tournament this past weekend.
While being varsity captain as a junior, and previously as a sophomore aswell, madison has uplifted her team in many ways.

Highlights
In her second year at the helm of running a 5-1 she reached her 1,000 assists. To reach that in her 130th set is impressive. She’s averaging 8.4 assists per set and is finding her hitters in and out of system. She’s also hitting .306

Olivia Durst helped her team to 4 more wins this week, to remain undefeated for the season. She contributed 16 aces and 29 digs for the week. She also reached a career milestone of 1,000 digs!

During this week of play, Bella showcased her exceptional skills, achieving 35 kills, 43 digs, and 3 aces. Her outstanding performance has earned her the MIC Sports Student Athlete of the Week award for the third consecutive year. As a junior, Bella has already surpassed the impressive milestones of 1,000 kills and 1,000 digs, a remarkable achievement that highlights her talent and dedication. Additionally, she has been named to the AVCA Phenoms Watch List for two years, further emphasizing her status as a standout player. Bella’s commitment to excellence on the court and her ability to lead her team make her an inspiring athlete. I wholeheartedly recommend her for Player of the Week recognition. Ellie Kleven played 2 matches ( 7 sets), Came away with 62 Assists, 21 digs, 5 blocks, 4 kills and 6 aces as a junior Setter for South Anchorage High School. She lays it all on the line every time she steps foot on the court.
