When covering the smaller programs around Indiana, the most intriguing part of doing so is finding that special something that makes that team unique. Maybe there's resilience, sometimes there's a lack of seniors, sometimes the balance is so even that it's hard to pinpoint who to write about. Today's edition focuses on the teams, times, records, rankings and a pair of players per team that will be the focus of their opponents' scouting report.

10a: Winchester Community (24-9) v #4 Barr-Reeve (29-6)

For the Golden Eagles, this might be the first of multiple trips to the semi state. With no seniors as part of the box score last week, this author thinks that Winchester might become a power in their own right. Big attackers [player_tooltip player_id='710310' first='Auden' last='Hummel'] and Lilyana Mayberry led the way last week in their regional, and will bring a solid 7 kps to the fray. The Vikings, however, brings a balanced offense and a disciplined defense and have seen their own level of big attackers before. I'm specifically looking to junior attackers [player_tooltip player_id='226808' first='Addison' last='Jones'] and Lanie Graber to shoulder the offensive load today. Hopefully, neither of these teams look ahead to the semi state championship, where the winner will play the winner of.....

Approx. 12p: Scecina (27-7) v #1 Brownstown Central (31-3)

These two volleyball powerhouses will make this match a battle worth watching. For Scecina, they needed all five sets for both the sectional (Heritage Christian) AND the regional last week (Covenant Christian). Unique to this match, however, is that both teams have a college committed player, and both are going to the same school. [player_tooltip player_id='434168' first='Molly' last='Welborn'] (Hanover commit) is the offensive leader for the Crusaders, yet I'm also watching Olivia Anglemyer, who led Scecina in kills last week. Both, plus a healthy dose of stats from their supporting cast, will be needed to have a chance against the wire-to-wire #1 team in 2A. For those #1 Braves, it appears they're on a mission. Their schedule is no slouch---they play anyone at any time, and have absolutely dominated during the postseason. No team has made it to 20 in any set since the playoffs began two weeks ago. I'm always a fan of [player_tooltip player_id='750544' first='Sophie' last='Wischmeier'], whose consistent play has led this band of Braves all season. Hanover commit [player_tooltip player_id='521314' first='Kinzee' last='Dean'] is a solid outlet attacker when defenses are keying on Sophie too much. There are so many options that BC has that I wouldn't be surprised if, at the end of the day, kids not named above do something spectacular.
