MVPs of the NorCal PrepDig Top250 Showcase – Part 2

On December 7th, I had the privilege of attending the NorCal PrepDig Top250 Showcase at [program_tooltip program_id='545945' first='Rage' last='Volleyball Club'] in Ripon, CA. As with every showcase I attend, the event wasn't just about highlighting athletic abilities – it was about celebrating the complete athlete. Through Coachable247, I introduced a unique element by asking coaches to select their own MVPs. This provided a meaningful opportunity to incorporate the Networking component from the Coachable247 Playbook into our showcase interviews.   This approach mirrors the way college coaches evaluate prospects – by observing, listening, and identifying what truly sets players apart. It's not always about the flashiest skills or tallest players; instead, it's about finding the rare combination of talent, work ethic, and character. Coaches understand what they're seeking, and discovering a player who embodies these qualities is incredibly rewarding.   The beauty of this MVP selection process was that each coach had the freedom to define what stood out to them most – whether it was raw talent, leadership, hustle, or the ability to elevate the team without the ball.    Coach Devyn selected [player_tooltip player_id='728892' first='Catey' last='Robertson'] as his MVP for her impressive all-around game and exceptional versatility. As a left-handed right-side hitter, Catey showcased a powerful arm swing, able to attack both cross-court and down the line with precision. "She's not the biggest hitter, but she's incredibly smart with every swing," Coach Devyn said. "Her power will challenge any top club teams, and she knows exactly where to place each ball." Catey's ability to dominate both on the right side and outside made her an offensive threat no matter where she was on the court.   In addition to her attacking skills, Catey's serve stood out as one of the best in the gym, with a serve that could challenge even D1-level passers. Her serve receive was just as solid, demonstrating her well-rounded skill set. "If I had her on my team running a 5-1, I'd let her play all around," Coach Devyn shared. Beyond her technical abilities, Catey's positive attitude and sportsmanship were clear; she was always encouraging her teammates, giving high fives, and fostering a supportive atmosphere. "That's why Catey was my MVP," Coach Devyn concluded. "She's the type of player I would want on my team." Olivia stood out as a well-rounded player who excelled in multiple facets of the game, but it was her resilience that truly impressed. “If she made a mistake, she didn't dwell on it – she moved on to the next ball with focus and determination,” Coach Emily explained. Olivia's ability to lift her teammates with her positive attitude and her mental toughness made her a standout on and off the court. Alayna's serve receive platform was particularly impressive, as she maintained a calm and controlled demeanor, no matter the pressure. “She's a natural communicator, always keeping her teammates informed and engaged,” Coach Leah shared. Alayna's hustle and relentless defensive efforts also set her apart. Her ability to cover the court and make critical defensive plays demonstrated why she is such a valuable asset to any team. Kylie stood out for her ability to communicate effectively with her teammates, offering constant encouragement during gameplay.   In hitting lines, she demonstrated a remarkable sense of sportsmanship by uplifting both high-level and lower-level setters. Kylie made it a point to high-five them on her way back, showcasing her supportive and inclusive demeanor. Regardless of the quality of the set, she fully engaged with each opportunity, strategically placing shots, tips, or pushes to the far corners to maximize the play.   Kylie's combination of effort, positive attitude, and strong work ethic made her a standout on and off the court. Her ability to lead by example and bring out the best in those around her solidified her as a player any team would be lucky to have. Her relentless effort and ability to elevate her team's performance showcased her as not only a talented player but also a leader who embodies the spirit of teamwork.
