We set the stage for 2025's first Midwest Power League with an introductory feature on the teams and storylines to follow. Now, it's time to dive into more specifics about some players to watch ahead of this high-profile regional event.

Of course, this is a big calendar year for the 2027s. This group's college recruiting journey kicks off this summer, and we want to hone in on as many rising juniors from this class as possible. The Midwest Power League is a perfect venue to chase this goal, so let's give you a few athletes to watch this weekend.

Don't forget about the 2027s playing up a year. We've discussed Wiechman's breakout sophomore campaign with Papillion-La Vista, and now she's looking to build on a special club season with the AAU champs. This year's [program_tooltip program_id='428728' first='River' last='City Jrs'] 17 Navy team is fresh off a title in Orlando at the 16s level. Wiechman played various roles on that team as a middle-opposite hybrid attacker and emerged as one of 16 Navy's top terminators. One year later, Wiechman's championship goals remain the same.

This outside hitter will don new club colors for the 2025 season, but the transition should be seamless. Volkmer is joining [program_tooltip program_id='428717' first='Nebraska' last='ONE'] 16 Black and should immediately become a go-to attacker on the left side. The Lincoln North Star standout racked up over 300 kills last fall en route to the Navigators' breakthrough appearance in the state tournament. Volkmer's elite medley of ball-control skills and scoring ability make her a perfect fit for the [program_tooltip program_id='428717' first='Nebraska' last='ONE'] gym.

Goodwin brings us some much-needed central Nebraska representation. This Grand Island Senior High athlete was a standout during last year's club season as she bolstered a physical Nebraska Juniors frontcourt. Her quickness off the floor allows her to score from anywhere, and we saw more of this range when Goodwin reached the postseason with the Islanders. She's now eager to continue this momentum with Nebraska Juniors 16 Black and will be an efficient scorer at Sunday's event.

Fettin is a do-it-all player who has found a new home with [program_tooltip program_id='428717' first='Nebraska' last='ONE']'s vaunted Synergy squad. We saw the Papio sophomore don the libero jersey through much of her stay at last weekend's Nebraska Elite Classic. However, Fettin has also wielded a terminal swing throughout her prep career and compiled over 200 kills for the Monarchs last year. Her experience as an attacker likely helps Fettin read opposing attackers and make quick breaks to the ball. Those instincts will be tested again at the Midwest Power League.

Last year's Premier Nebraska 15 Black group set a high bar heading into 2025. Fortunately, Cahow and her team carry a ton of optimism into the new 16s campaign. 16 Black has historically favored a two-setter offense, allowing Cahow to demonstrate her strong distribution skills in three-hitter rotations. The Elkhorn South sophomore is also an eager right-back defender who will keep 16 Black in plenty of long rallies. Premier Nebraska's Class of 2027 depth will be a big storyline as we transition to the qualifier gauntlet.

[program_tooltip program_id='428743' first='VCNebraska' last=''] has no shortage of talented setters in its arsenal. Kroemer will reenter the spotlight after an impressive late-season run toward USAV Nationals. [program_tooltip program_id='428743' first='VCNebraska' last=''] 16 Black's lineup flexibility allows Kroemer to exhibit her setting proficiency in a wide range of situations. She is most comfortable setting out of the back row but can also operate along the net if needed. Look for Kroemer's pin-to-pin distribution to shine against some tough Great Plains foes.

Hilderbrand is jumping to Nebraska Elite's top 16s squad and has a chance to boost her stock in 2025. The Gretna High School athlete has been a versatile impact player in the Nebraska Elite gym and brings a full array of six-rotation skills to the 16 Apex lineup. Hilderbrand is a steady passer who displayed some of that serve-receive prowess at last weekend's Nebraska Elite classic. She is also an ideal fit for the crossing patterns and combination plays that have made 16 Apex's frontcourt so difficult to stop. This new-look group is eager to replicate last year's qualifier success.
