Moving right along through the seven divisions of 17s teams at Central Zones this weekend, we'll take time to look at six attackers that each have their unique way of showing what they're made of. Each are from different clubs, and each can make a difference at the next level.

On the 17-2 squad at Boiler Juniors, there's a middle that more than makes up for her size with unmatched athleticism and jumping ability, and that's Miss Perry. Her ability to go up and over unsuspecting blocks is her calling card, and will use that speed, strength and athleticism on both offense and defense. With her raw athleticism, plus the training she's receiving at Boiler Juniors, Brooklyn will make a small school happy in the fall of '26 with her jumping ability.

With a state title in hand (2A, 2024), Emmerson is a defensive middle who has arms for days. With her long stride and longer arms to close blocks, Miss Gott is a tough one to go against, regardless of the position. Her attack is developing nicely since last club season, and her high attack touch will serve her well at the next level. Some of the speed and footwork can (and will) be trained this spring, but knowing that the defensive portion of her game is far ahead of some of her classmates leads me to believe that she takes the "blocking" portion of the "middle blocker" moniker more seriously than most.

Speaking of long arms, Jasmine has a wing span that is probably the longest for an under-six-foot kid in this or any class. Her raw athleticism and footwork get her to the setter for zero tempo swings whenever she wants; it just seems like she short-arms the ball because her high school setter didn't set her high enough. No matter---the folks at Empowered have a gem of a middle on their hands, and will train her up to make her reach to that ten-foot attack point she can already get to.

I'm having trouble assigning a position to this young lady because of how exceptional she is at both setting AND attacking. This lefty-banger can go get the ball, with an attack touch at nearly ten feet. As a setter, her footwork is refined and smooth, her hands are high and strong, and she locates the ball (in tempo) with some of the best of them. I'd like to see if she can refine her position to one, as a better evaluation can be made once she picks. For now, however, Miss McCollum is more than capable of being a hybrid setter in a 6-2 for a smaller school that wants to save the subs by having her hit in the front row and set from the back row. I can easily see Lucinda earning triple-doubles regularly (kills, assists, digs) at the next level because of her adept nature at all skills.

Strong and smooth, Shae is a coach's daughter who "gets it" when it comes to training volleyball for the next level. A hard-hitting stud for state top-five Tecumseh, Shae can attack from either pin because of the angles she can attack at AND her ability to make adjustments in mid-air. She also has the size and strength to take on either pin, as she rarely looks tired on the attack no matter how many balls come her way. I'd like to see a little more back row play from her to further her evaluation. Hopefully, this club season allows for more defense from her.

Smooth and quick, Kelsee is a six-rotation outside through and through. With a fast arm swing and even faster feet to get her to the ball, Miss Coil can do it all from an O2 perspective. Do not underestimate her because of her slight build---she's more than powerful enough and has energy to burn when it comes to consistent play throughout the day, like what we'll see at the tournament this weekend in downtown Indy.
