Breaking Down the Setters in the 2027 Rank

I love doing deep dives into the different positions. For the class of 2027, we will start with the setters and work through the different positions over the next few days. This article will cover the top-ranked setters, stock risers, new to the rank, and new watchlist names to know.    <h2 class="wp-block-heading">Top-Ranked Setters</h2>    Payton is the #1 ranked athlete in the class of 2027. She is a high-IQ setter who moves the ball around with incredible efficiency. Payton is a leader on the court who orchestrates every offensive move for her team. She is a steady leader on the court who plays with consistent competitiveness. Payton never misses a beat on the court and runs a very fast-tempo offense.     Gigi is a gritty athlete who can set and swing. She is an absolute game who will do what it takes to earn the point and win. Gigi puts in a ton of hustle on the court and is a fearless leader. She leads by example and is a player that her teammates trust with every aspect of the game.     Lilliani is another the #3 setter in this class and a player who plays with a lot of finesse. She can also dig in deep and play gritty defense. Lilliani is a setter who is tough to read and runs an incredibly fast offense. She has clean form and uses that to hide her setting choices until the very last second. She is one of the most savvy setters in this class and is always ready for the next challenge on the court.     Lauren is a player with a high, quick contact on the ball. She spreads her offense out really well and keeps her middles involved throughout matches. She is another setter who is tough for opponents to read. The pace of her sets only continues to increase as she makes tighter connections with her hitters and she is always working to elevate her game. Lauren is a highly talented setter with a massive amount of potential.     Meghan is a setter who brings a high volleyball IQ and a lot of grit to the game. She knows how to win volleyball games and compete at a high level. Meghan makes energizing plays. She is a motivator and leader on the court who won't back down from a challenge. Meghan's form is very technically sound and she does all of the little things right to get the ball to where it needs to be.     Taylor is the definition of a gritty athlete. She isn't afraid to throw herself across the court to get the job done. Her determination and sheer resilience keep the ball alive time and time again. When she is on the court, the team's energy is always high. Taylor has a way of connecting with her teammates as a leader and does it all while doling out masterful sets and picking up key digs on defense.    <h2 class="wp-block-heading">Stock Risers</h2>    Abigail has been very impressive this club season. She has solid ball placement and really clean contact. What really stands out about Abigail is how she does all of the little things right. Abigail is disciplined and works hard to set her hitters up for success, from her footwork to her finish. She is a player on the rise in this class and an athlete to watch.     Bella moved up a handful of spots in this rank update. She never ceases to impress me. What has really caught my eye recently is how far her all-around play has developed. She has always been a very talented setter, which has also continued to level up. But her improvement in hitting and defense has set her apart recently.     Cora jumped from #80 to #65 in the rankings. She had a tremendous high school season and has continued that into the club season. Cora is a natural leader on the court and has a clean touch on the ball. She has a huge upside and a ton of potential. Cora is incredibly athletic and an athlete who has the potential to continue to improve and impress.    <h2 class="wp-block-heading">New to the Rank</h2>    I watched Hailey play during MEQ, and she was electric on the court. She played as both setter and right side and elevated the game for her team in both positions. As a setter, Hailey was quick and smart with her decision-making and could execute with precision and tempo. She was a solid defender and showed a lot of grit. When Hailey was in the front row, she took some massive rips and ran a sneaky X play that led to several key kills. Hailey is a game-changer on the court and a player with a very high ceiling.     Andi is a setter who makes the tough plays look easy. She is quick across the court, makes clean plays even in scramble situations, and has great placement of the ball. She keeps the tempo fast even when she is behind the ten-foot line. Andi can also swing across the front row and earn numerous points per set. She is smart with her shots but can take big rips as well.     Emma is a solid setter with a lot of potential. Her speed alone sets her apart from other setters. She has quick and explosive movement around the court and works to get her hands on everything she can. When she is on the move she can still place the ball consistently and set her hitters up for success. Emma is a player with an incredible amount of potential in this class and one to keep an eye on.     Amy is a name to know in this class. She is a setter with a lot of potential who continues to gain experience. She set for Waunakee in the fall and did a great job. Amy has a confident demeanor on the court and helps her team control the chaos of the sport very well. She never misses a beat and is a highly competitive athlete.     Anna is very athletic who can play all six rotations confidently. She does well under pressure and has an awesome connection with her hitters. She is scrappy, competitive, and always working hard on the court to get the job done. She knows her role as a leader and a setter and not only fulfills it, but goes above and beyond.     Addy is a player who could have a break out season. She first popped on my radar at the Sizzle last summer and has been impressive when I have seen her since. She does a great job keeping her hitters engaged and managing the offense well. She has great fundamentals and as she continues to play competitively the strategic side of her game will only grow stronger.     Olivia was a stand out setter at the Champions Cup where she exploded onto my radar. She is very offensively-minded and earned numerous points with a sneaky power tip from the front row. Because she is so hard to read when she plays, blockers hold on her, often giving her hitters only one blocker. She is a powerhouse player with great hands and is an energizer on the court.    <h2 class="wp-block-heading">New to the Watchlist</h2>    Eiley is a consistent force as a setter. She has a lot of hustle and can make great, clean plays even when on the move. She has a lot of upsides as an athlete including her consistent play throughout matches and tournaments. This is much easier said than done, but when I saw her playing early in the Champions Cup and then late on day 2, she was consistently delivering great sets, putting in competitive serves, and picking up solid defensive plays throughout.     Maddy was has been so impressive when I have seen her play. Her form and footwork is nearly textbook perfect. Maddy works hard to keep every hitter engaged and isn't afraid to take some risks. Maddy's clean and and disciplined style of play keeps her team on track in tight games and reduces errors.     Maitlyn is another very fundamentally sound setter. She is has a great contact point and quick release on the ball. She really impressed me at the Champions Cup where she ran the court efficiently and was a stand out player for her team.     Julia is a setter to keep an eye on. She runs the show for the Southwest team and is incredibly gritty. She utilizes every chance she gets to put up a great set for her teammates. Julia is absolutetly fearless on the court and has a great touch on the ball. She is a natural leader and doesn't miss a beat throughout the match.
