The middles in this class have lethal precision. And it seems new names to know are emerging every single day. Despite this, only a handful of middles have committed to play in college so far. This article is a deep dive into the ranking update of the middle hitters in the class of 2026, including top-ranked athletes, stock risers, new to the rank, and new watchlist players. Let's dive in.    <h2 class="wp-block-heading">Top-Ranked Athletes</h2>    Allie is one of the most lethal athletes in this class and, honestly, the country. She is a Marquette commit and could play literally anywhere on the court for them. Although she is listed as a middle, she can also play in both pins and all six rotations. The way she elevates the game of those around her is nothing short of incredible. She is nationally ranked at 96 and is a relentless force on the court.     Eden is the #2 ranked middle and is still an available prospect in this class. Her swings pack a punch. What really sets her apart is her consistent and solid block. She puts up a wall from pin to pin and can explode through her footwork to close the block on time. Eden is an athlete who improves her physical and strategic game every time I see her play.     Hannah is such a high-level middle, and it is no surprise she was one of the first middles to commit in this class. She will be taking her talents to South Dakota State University, a program that has been making a statement for the past several years. Hannah is the full package as a middle and is incredibly disciplined in her form and movement.     Maggie has always been an impressive athlete, but she has recently added a lot of depth to her game. She can play at a very high level on both the middle and the right side, making her a dual threat to any team she encounters. Her power and ability to adapt to different sets have also developed at a fast pace. Maggie has an incredibly high ceiling and could be a massive pick-up for a college program.     Kayla is an absolute powerhouse out of the middle. She can absolutely take over a match with her offensive dominance. Kayla is a UW-Milwaukee commit and is a huge addition to their recruiting class. She has so much depth as an athlete and in the middle.    <h2 class="wp-block-heading">Stock Risers</h2>    Sophia is a player on the rise in this class. She has really developed in her shot selection and physicality on the court. She really exploded onto my radar last year and has only continued to grow her game at an impressive rate ever since. Sophia improved from 40 to 38 in the rank.     Maddie is a player who continues to play at a high level. She was a breakout star of the 2023 State Championships and has continued to be an impact player during high school and club seasons. Maddie is quick, athletic, and has a high IQ. Her reaction time and ability to explode in her movement mean she can close blocks and make lightning-fast decisions. Maddie improved from #61 to #39 in the rank update.     Taylor is an athlete who is always getting the job done. Whether it is on offense or defense, Taylor is engaged and working hard in every single moment of a match. She wants the ball and works to make smart adjustments throughout matches. She is a player to keep an eye on as she continues to play at a high level. She jumped ten spots from #70 to #60 in the rankings.     Lucy made a big jump from #109 in the rankings to #79. Her physicality alone sets her apart from other middles in her class. She is aggressive and fearless in the middle and is a difference-maker on the court. Lucy is a hungry and competitive athlete who can also swing on the right side and has a nasty slide attack that is nearly impossible to defend. Lucy brings energy and efficiency to the court and, on top of it all, is a leader.     Lily improved from #118 to #101 in the rankings. She has a lot of length and uses every inch of it to make impressive plays. Every time I see her play, she catches my eye with her athleticism and discipline. Middle is a physically and mentally demanding position, and Lily handles it with finesse. Lily has a very high ceiling and would be a great addition to a college roster to play at the next level.    <h2 class="wp-block-heading">New to the Rank </h2>    Khloe is an explosive and middle with a powerful arm and keen eye for finding holes on the court. She can consistently swing seams at defenders and can find the deep corners as well. Khloe is quick in transition and never misses a beat. Her ability to manufacture points with a high efficiency makes her a key piece of every team she plays on.     Finley can play on the pin or out of the middle. One of her most impressive and consistent plays is on the slide. Her approach behind the setter is aggressive and explosive and she can take massive rips off one foot. Finley is very athletic and brings a lot of power and physicality to the position.     Josephine is a player to keep an eye on. She has a huge amount of potential and it is getting recognized. Josephine was recently named to the Badger Region High Performance Camp roster. When Josephine connects with her setters, her swings are momentum-changing.     Don't sleep on Lily! She is a true athletic weapon out of the middle, and her ceiling is sky high. She has a high volleyball IQ and seems to know every shot in the book. Lily isn't afraid to utilize a deep corner power tip but can then turn around and take a massive rip on the next point. She reads the court incredibly well and has a very high efficiency as a result.     Lucy is a rockstar athlete who went from a Watch List player all the way to #139 in the rank in this update. She has a lightning-fast arm swing and a massive vertical. Lucy can swing on the pin and out of the middle, making her a dynamic offensive weapon. She is a huge energizer on the court and a player to keep an eye on in this class.     Bree exploded onto my radar with her absolute dominance on the court. She has an incredibly strong arm and can mix up her shots very well. Her ability to take over a match is simply fun to watch and she is a stellar athlete who thrives in pass to attack situations.    <h2 class="wp-block-heading">New to the Watchlist</h2>    Jana is a crafty middle who makes the tough shots look easy. She is creative and tough to read. Her ability to make even the off sets work for her is impressive. It is incredibly hard for middles to adjust mid-play, but Jana makes it look natural and uses it to work to her advantage.     Samantha's speed was the first thing I noticed about her play. She is fast in transition, fast across the net, and explosive in her approach. Samantha is disciplined in everything from her footwork and timing to her armswing and ball contact. She is a consistent force on the court.     Grace is a springy athlete with a lot of potential. She has quick-twitch reactions that keep her active at the net, swiping balls away from coming over, taking big rips on over passes, and putting up a wall of a block. Grace is also crafty on offense. She mixes up her shots on nearly every play, using a variety of well-placed tips, roll shots, and powerhouse swings to earn points.     Savannah is a dynamic middle who can swing in front of and behind the setter. She is quick on the slide and can outpace most opposing blocks. Her ability to set her team up for success runs deep. Even on plays when she doesn't get a clean kill, she typically forces her opponents to give a free ball or easy shot back. She capitalizes on every set she is given and is a player with huge potential in this class.
