With all three weekends of the Mideast Qualifier in the rearview mirror, we can wrap up our positional breakdowns for the class of '27, some of which made gold bracket appearances in the 16 Open division of MEQ. Here are five setters from throughout the state that have gained ground in the recruiting game since the last update.

I typed that last sentence implying that Miss Schembra had that much farther to go. In reality, Anabelle has always been there. Leading her team to a third place finish and earning an open bid to nationals, she was the catalyst to a ton of high level offensive performances throughout the weekend. Dynamic, athletic and strong, her sets were located well and consistently, and has even developed a heavy hybrid serve that causes problems if you're not ready for it. Upgrading the bid to an open bid will present a challenge for her squad, but it's a challenge I think they're ready for.

Quiet and unassuming, Emily is one of two setters listed on the roster for Academy's Yeti (read: 16-1). Her athleticism is on full display when setting---long strides, strong hands and shoulders, and an ability to turn a bad pass into something hittable. Although her squad didn't quite have the finish they wanted (Silver bracket), they still took a set off of Legacy, the eventual 5th-place finisher. All of the parts are there to succeed at the next level for this squad. Emily is the clear reason these hitters can produce in a complex and fast offense.

From a non-traditional volleyball school west of Indianapolis, Claire is an exceptional add to this squad at Boiler Juniors. What drives her is her impeccable footwork. She's always at the ball, wherever it is passed, ready to set. Even if she chooses to be offensive (which she has the size to do so), it's quite deceptive, and WILL score points if you don't respect it as a defender. Able to block her position better than most in this class, her long arms make hitting against her that much harder. She's the whole package, and is getting better with great training at Boiler Juniors.

A little on the small side for setting in this class, Claire is a quick and reliable setter that can be comfortable in a small-school 5-1 offense or a three-rotation setter in a 6-2. Probably the best defensive setter in today's article, Claire's ability to read and react when defending sets her apart from the others. Yes, she's the smallest listed today, but her foot speed makes up for that lack of size in a hurry. Whether the pass is in-system or out-of-system, Miss Ducey manages to consistently find the right hitters in the right situation. That's hard to teach, and with Claire, you don't have to.

A true lefty setter listed by her for the first time in a while, Braelynn led her PHP 16-1 squad to a gold power pool finish at MEQ this past weekend. Her ability to switch quickly from setter to attacker has no rival in this class, and her athleticism transitions well to both positions. I like that she can do both, and do both well. Yes, she's going to have to eventually pick a position to be recruited for. But for now, let's just enjoy the fact that she's a hitter who can run an offense AND a setter that can hammer away at a moment's notice.
