On March 8, I scouted two matches that [program_tooltip program_id='428892' first='PVA' last=''] 15-2 competed in Power League Play.

They lost both matches, but this squad plays gritty ball with young and raw talent.

Here is a look at four prospects with impressive performances.

[player_tooltip player_id='757715' first='Ava' last='Zhao'], 5'8”, S, Blue Valley West '28

Zhao had the best all-around game on this team. She can set, play defense, and hit some. She played six rotations for [program_tooltip program_id='428892' first='PVA' last='']. I liked her speed and the way she played a composed game. She doesn't get rattled when the chips are down and came up with a couple of clutch digs late in a three-set loss to the Topeka Saints.

[player_tooltip player_id='724847' first='Elliot' last='Sokoloski'], 5'11”, OH, Olathe East, 28

Sokoloski is arguably the best attacker on this team. She is very athletic and can elevate. I would like to see her improve her upper-body strength moving forward. She led the team in kills during both matches. Olathe East had a losing season last year, so she might have a chance to step up and show out next year as a sophomore.

[player_tooltip player_id='757716' first='Ella' last='Schutte'], 5'10”, OH, Gardner-Edgerton, ‘28

Schutte can play six rotations and will chip in on every facet. She has a nice serve and a smooth approach. She does not have the skills to dominate a match right now, but she is a player who will do the little things to help a team win. Like Zhao, I was impressed with her poise in long rallies and tight sets.

[player_tooltip player_id='757714' first='Drina' last='Elmer'], 5'4”, OH/MB, Mill Valley, ‘28

Elmer was the surprise of the day for me. This was the first time I have seen her play, and she did not make her high school squad last season. She hits the ball like it mouthed off to her. Elmer is proof that explosives can come in small packages. Her size and jumping ability remind me of other ranked prospects [player_tooltip player_id='222091' first='Avery' last='Sands'] (Lansing), [player_tooltip player_id='515151' first='Zoey' last='Sudbeck'] (Nemaha Central), and Maize's [player_tooltip player_id='551328' first='Tinley' last='Travis']. She is someone I hope I get to see play again.
