New Setters to Watch in Updated Nebraska 2027 Rankings

Let's keep churning through some new additions.   We have a lot of work to do after our latest Nebraska 2027 rankings update added 100 names to our list. Our last feature covered a handful of our new <a href="https://prepdig.com/2025/05/new-pin-hitters-to-watch-in-updated-nebraska-2027-rankings/">pin hitters</a>. We promised to keep moving across the positional landscape, so we're bringing the setters into the spotlight for this one.   Which 2027 signal-callers have shown promise en route to their rankings debut? Here are a few of our picks.    Club Legacy setters have impressed us across multiple age groups, and Newbauer has been an exceptional representative for the 16s. The Club Legacy 16 Bravo setter guided her team to multiple high-profile triumphs this year, including a Gold bracket appearance at the Northern Lights Qualifier. Newbauer's mature feel for tempo and location has been a difference-maker for 16 Bravo's attackers, who have taken full advantage of split-block opportunities. The Omaha area is already accumulating a wealth of setter talent in the 2027 class.     We can always expect a few standout setters in the [program_tooltip program_id='428717' first='Nebraska' last='ONE'] gym. Martin is part of the multi-player setter operation for [program_tooltip program_id='428717' first='Nebraska' last='ONE'] 16 Grey and made major strides during this year's club campaign. Her team aimed high at qualifiers like NLQ and Show Me, where Martin's leadership was incredibly valuable during pool play. Her teammate connections have strengthened throughout 2025--the sign of a developing, adaptive setter.     Let's address the other half of [program_tooltip program_id='428717' first='Nebraska' last='ONE'] 16 Grey's setter rotation. Grant joins Martin in the team's two-setter lineup and provides a ton of continuity in the right-back area. This Lincoln East sophomore is particularly adept at getting all three hitters involved and can better the ball while off the net. 16 Grey's tough schedule translated to in-season gains, and its pair of starting setters helped keep the offense flowing, too.     South Central NE is bolstering its setter depth and keeping small-town clubs in the national conversation. Hinrichs represents South Central NE 16 White and can play a dual setter-opposite role for her squad. It's the kind of versatility we'd expect from an athlete from BDS, one of Nebraska's most consistent volleyball powerhouses. We're anxious to see more of Hinrichs' impactful game as she seeks a state tournament appearance this fall.     Nebraska Elite 16 Surge has given us plenty of storyline material this year. The team notched a podium finish at the President's Day Classic and also made a Gold bracket run at the Northern Lights Qualifier. Claussen has aided this effort with precise setting and relentless defensive pursuit in the right-back area. 16 Surge has found itself in plenty of long rallies this year, allowing Claussen to showcase her proficient transition setting and quick footwork. Expect another breakout campaign with Norfolk on the prep side.     Kearney Elite 16-1 has shown us many future leaders in the Central Nebraska scene. Jasnoch dishes out the offense for this stacked squad and is a setter who embraces big matches. This became apparent when we watched Kearney Elite battle some of the big-city juggernauts at the Great Plains Region Bid Tournament. Jasnoch will likely remain in the spotlight with Kearney High School this fall and has a lot more to gain with her year-round teammates.     Finally, we'll check in on the extensive cast of 16s talent at [program_tooltip program_id='428728' first='River' last='City Jrs']. Derogatis anchors the setter spot for 16 Red and has emerged as a steady leader in the lineup. She delivers perfect sets to the pins and can put her middle blockers in ideal one-on-one situations in the frontcourt. Derogatis also shines in three-hitter rotations that allow her back-row defense to flourish. This is one of many new additions from the 16 Red roster, and we have room for more across the [program_tooltip program_id='428728' first='River' last='City Jrs'] landscape.
