Digs for Davey Hitters to Know in early June

<!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Nine area teams played 25-minute scrimmages on two courts at Boyd County on Friday attempting to raise funds for 16th Region official Davey Anderson in his battle against cancer. The event raised $6,800 in donations to help Anderson and his family.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>For early June, these hitters stood out as ones to know for the 16th Region. Ashland is the defending region champion. She uses her size and vertical jump to create tough angles. Hall adds in tips to the lines to throw off defenders. Defensively, Hall gets her hands on a lot of balls. If she does not touch them, she forces hitters to go high and wide. Roy takes hard swings on one sets in the middle. Roy may not play all six positions, but she does play some back row after serving and is not afraid to hit from there. She makes nice first touches from there and her serves keep teams out of system. Queen's hits soft and hard are so deceptive that defenders do not know where ball are going until the last second. She forms solid double blocks to control the net. Queen said she just rejoined her teammates after club season and everyone connects well. Mackie has a tough cross shot and mixes it in with a soft touch to the front row. Mackie also has nice first touches on balls to jumpstart the offense. Mackie also has a sharp line drive serve. The one area of her game that could use some work is blocking.
