2025 17U Club Awards – Caydence Doolan MVP

Both were instrumental in Metro finishing third in the 17 Open. Both were also named to the all tournament team. Caydence played a more complete role creating offense from the back row as well as front row while also being involved in passing and playing defense. Nadiyah played some back row, but not as frequently as Caydence. Without the other Metro may not have done as well.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Caydence will play her fourth season for North Hagerstown. The last two have resulted in state championships. </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- /wp:acf/evaluation-block --> <!-- wp:heading --> <h2 class="wp-block-heading">Most Surprising Player</h2> <!-- /wp:heading --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id='739911' first='Colette' last='Mercker'] </strong>middle ([program_tooltip program_id='494409' first='Blue' last='Ridge']) - Colette did not start playing volleyball until high school. Like most girls that stand 6'0" she made the frosh team because of her height. It took very little time before her skill level got noticed. Last year Virginia Juniors picked her up to play middle. All the travel and the cost associated with club proved too much so this year they dialed it down to play for [program_tooltip program_id='494409' first='Blue' last='Ridge']. As she did for Virginia Juniors Colette shined at middle for [program_tooltip program_id='494409' first='Blue' last='Ridge']. When the season ended they finished as one of the top 100 clubs in the country. Colette dished out a strong serve, showed the quickness to move from pin to pin and buried the quick tempo sets like a veteran. While they finished ninth in the tournament it may have been the first time Volley Viet received an invite to the event. Missing a bid to USAV Junior Nationals the team travelled to Orlando to play in the Aspire Division. They finished an incredible ninth out of 151 teams, making it to the gold bracket before getting eliminated in the first round. When the club season ended AES tabbed them as the tenth best 17U team in the Chesapeake Region.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>Eliana Tamayo</strong> set for Falls Church as a senior this past high school season. She appears to have switched to libero for Volley Viet. She brings to the court a very high volleyball IQ while also playing a significant leadership role. <strong>[player_tooltip player_id='455177' first='Briana' last='Vo'] </strong>set a 5/1 for Madison High School last year and she lined up as one of their setters this year. <strong>[player_tooltip player_id='664150' first='Nalani' last='Applehans']</strong> is an athletic middle that stands 6'0". She also runs trac and field for her high school. Except for Nalani this team will not beat you with power but more so with quickness. They do their best to prevent the ball from hitting the floor on their side of the court.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph -->
