HBCU Showcase Leaves Its Mark on CA Recruits

The HBCU Showcase made a powerful stop in Las Vegas on July 13, 2025, and as NecTr Athletics Volleyball put it, “you just had to be there.” California athletes showed up in full force, ready to compete, connect, and explore a new path to playing at the next level.   For those unfamiliar, HBCUs, or Historically Black Colleges and Universities, are institutions established primarily to serve Black students during a time when access to higher education was limited due to segregation. Today, they continue to be celebrated for their academic excellence, cultural legacy, and athletic opportunity. This showcase gave athletes the chance to engage with HBCU coaches, learn more about these storied programs, and imagine themselves thriving in an environment where community and excellence go hand in hand.   Below are some of the California athletes who made the trek to the desert, showcased their skills, proved their dedication, and put their summer training to the test in front of college coaches. She times out-of-system balls with precision and plays with a fierce competitive edge. A true impact player who thrives in championship moments. ~ Michelle Bamford @Coachable247     [player_tooltip player_id='734830' first='Disaya' last='Chacon'] is a 2027 setter who runs the court with confidence and clarity. She executes a well-defined game plan and consistently makes smart decisions under pressure. Her leadership and precision earned her Top Performer honors at the HBCU Showcase. ~ Michelle Bamford @Coachable247     [player_tooltip player_id='708497' first='Lailah' last='Clayborne'] is a 2028 middle/pin who brings strength, speed, and a readiness that stands out. She plays with urgency and impact, showing she's more than prepared for high-level competition. ~ Michelle Bamford @Coachable247     [player_tooltip player_id='507980' first='Ameira' last='Hardin'] is a 2028 outside who brings versatility and smart play to the court. She adjusts well to off-target sets, shows strong shot placement, and presses with great timing at the net. Her full-contact swings and blocking instincts make her a well-rounded offensive threat. ~ Michelle Bamford @Coachable247     [player_tooltip player_id='730255' first='London' last='Crawford'] is a 2027 outside hitter with impressive focus and discipline, especially in serve receive and defensive transitions. She moves with purpose, freezes her platform for accurate passes, and communicates effectively on the court. With great hops at the net and relentless defensive hustle, she's a dependable all-around contributor. ~ Michelle Bamford @Coachable247     [player_tooltip player_id='785868' first='Samiah' last='Bowie'] is a 2027 middle who shows strong fundamentals and solid hand contact on the ball. She's a developing presence at the net with the tools to grow into a consistent force in the middle. ~ Michelle Bamford @Coachable247     [player_tooltip player_id='558307' first='Haven' last='Jones'] is a 2026 outside hitter with Pipeline 17‑Adidas, known for delivering consistently solid contact on the ball. Her fundamentals show up in clean, crisp swings and reliable ball control...qualities that give her a strong foundation to build on in high-level play. ~ Michelle Bamford @Coachable247    Sydney Williams-Edwards Sydney Williams-Edwards made her presence known at the net with strong blocking and aggressive play. Her impact earned her a spot in the Championship match, where she continued to shine in front of college coaches. ~ Michelle Bamford @Coachable247   Lyric Binns Lyric Binns brings a joyful energy to the court that's matched by her readiness to compete. Her consistent effort and positive presence helped earn her time in the Championship match. ~ Michelle Bamford @Coachable247   Nylah Hiddleson Nylah Hiddleson is a high-IQ outside hitter who communicates well from the back row and delivers accurate passes to the setter. She shows great hustle, excellent net awareness, and reliable timing on the block, making her a key contributor in every rotation. ~ Michelle Bamford @Coachable247   Markaija Bolden Markaija Bolden earned Top Performer honors with her speed, strong footwork, and relentless hustle. She stays positive on and off the ball, moves forward with purpose, and covers teammates with intent, always playing with a smile.
