After almost eight months of intense action around the country, the club volleyball season came to an end last week, with the USA Volleyball Girls Junior National Championship taking place in Dallas.

The prospects from Texas won't, however, have a lot of time to breathe and relax after defending their club teams, as, in just over a month, on August 11, the high school volleyball season is about to begin in the Lone Star State, with the first matches of the University Interscholastic Legue (UIL) being held.

As in the past years, Prep Dig Texas will continue to follow the action closely in the Houston area, attending multiple matches every week and providing comprehensive coverage, with analysis, photos and social media posts from each of them.

It should be another exciting season, filled with highly-contested matches and strong individual performances, and, before August 11 arrives, we'll preview each district in the Houston area so you know exactly what to expect from each team competing:

District 14

Aldine

Aldine earned just one victory in 14 matches last season, ranking seventh in district play. Throughout the season, they had eight wins and 35 defeats. Setter Stephanie Rojas and libero Ruby Gonzalez highlight the Mustangs' graduating class and won't be back in 2025. The team, however, will count on their three leading scorers from last season in senior outside hitters Porsha Daniels, Tiffany Salazar and Jazlene Locander and junior middle Jocelyn De Los Santos. Senior Julie Smith is expected to fill their starting setter role.

Benjamin Davis

Benjamin Davis were one spot below the playoff qualification line last season, ranking fifth in the district with a campaign of six wins and eight losses - they had a 16-27 win record for the season. Heading into 2025, the Lady Falcons will miss many key starters from their last campaign who graduated, most notably outside hitter Breyonna Davis, right side Da'jah Brown, libero Nhung To and setter Shanazy Marshall. Leading the team in the upcoming season should be senior middles Breyawnna Noland and Keiyarah Kelly-Williams.

Dekaney

Dekaney sat at the bottom of the district standings last season, getting one victory in 14 matches - the team had three wins in 21 matches over the course of the entire season. Among the team's main departures at the end of the season were outside hitter Se'mia Young, middle Kimora Scranton, libero Ayana Ramirez and setter Toni Smith. The core of the team for the Lady Wildcats in 2025 should be formed by seniors Demya Robinson (middle), Shaniya Stephen (outside hitter) and Mikayla Vasquez (libero).

Eisenhower

Eisenhower ended up in sixth place in the district last season with a campaign of six victories and eight losses. The team won 13 times and lost on 21 occasions during their campaign. Middle Jayla Thomas, outside hitter Janya Gregory and setter Jaylin Guardiola graduated and will be hard to replace. The Lady Eagles will rely a lot on senior setter/right side Leyah Nash, sophomore outside hitter Kamari Dawson, senior middle Tadriana Laurant and senior libero Janally Francia to be in contention for a spot in the playoffs in 2025.

MacArthur

MacArthur were at the top of the district standings last season, registering 12 wins and two losses. The Lady Generals ended their season with a positive record of 24 wins and 17 losses and appeared in the Division 1 Playoffs, losing to The Woodlands in the bi-district round. They graduated a strong senior class, which included middles Jessika Martinez and Lashae Goffney, outside hitter Nakisha Nedd and libero Alexis Lopez. Seniors Destiny McFarland (middle), setter Marciela Hernandez (setter) and Abigail Flores (libero) will be key players for them in the upcoming season.

Nimitz

Nimitz were the fourth-best team in the district last season, getting nine wins and five losses. After going down to Grand Oaks in the bi-district round of the Division 1 Playoffs, they completed their season with a 17-23 win record. The Lady Cougars will return in 2025 with pretty much a new team after several seniors graduated, most notably outside hitters Jalyn Gibson and Jada Jones, setter Scarlet Gutierrez and libero Josephine Bilbao. Among their few returning players will be senior libero Mia Hernandez and junior middle Krislyn Jenkins.

Spring

Spring ranked third in district play in 2024, getting 10 wins and four losses against their regional rivals - the team had an 11-24 win record for the season. The Lady Lions qualified for the Division 2 Playoffs, but didn't make it past the bi-district round, falling to College Park. The team's leading scorers, outside hitters Kori Sessions and Keasia Ivery graduated, as did libero Kasey Jones and setter Amareya Robinson. Juniors Alayah Masters (middle), Bria Harris (outside hitter), Haley Odom (middle) and Victoria Salas (setter) will form the core of the team going forward.

Westfield

With 11 wins and just three losses, Westfield finished district play in second place - they had 17 victories and ten defeats in the season. The Lady Mustangs competed in the Division 2 Playoffs, but fell in their first match, losing to Oak Ridge in the bi-district round. Setter Julissa Velazquez is the main name in a graduating class that also includes middle Lexi Chimaeze and outside hitters Saniyah Jones. The team's top scorers in 2024, senior outside hitter Nickyanna Miles and junior outside hitter [player_tooltip player_id='727310' first='Madison' last='Fairley'] will both be back, forming the core of the team with senior libero [player_tooltip player_id='443120' first='Nasya' last='Robinson'] and junior setter Aleza Salazar.
