2028 Rankings Update: The Setters

We feature six setters from outside the Top 20 overall players; these court leaders are assertive and want to run the show for their squads. The group has an excellent mix of soft hands, foot speed, height, and most of all, terrific location. There are 16 setters in the rankings, and another 14 we are tracking on the Watch List. The next rankings update for the 2028 class will take place in December.    Burton has the size and skills to push her way up the rankings; the Mount Vernon setter is also strong on the right side, taking advantage of her 5'11" length to score with a heavy arm swing. She recognizes when she needs to make an emergency move to deliver a quality set- adroitly pivoting off one on the run or planting her feet and firing a long, fast tempo ball to the outside. Butron is currently ranked at #22 overall and has a terrific all-around game.   <figure class="wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio"><div class="wp-block-embed__wrapper"> https://youtu.be/YKTcvVY6q9k?si=gN1F71x89z09uUjg </div></figure>     Congdon was excellent running the offense for SIVBC during the club season and is part of the high-powered Lake Stevens program during school ball. She will continue to improve with solid training and competition in both gyms. Congdon is left-handed, has a tough serve, and is accurate to both pins. She is currently the 5th-ranked setter in the initial 2028 rankings.     The Glacier Peak prospect is a quick, athletic setter and right-side; she moves easily around the court to run down the second ball and has the vertical to compete at the net at 5'7". Box has strong hands and can push the ball pin to pin, and her speed and reactions help her play outstanding defense. Box is the 45th-ranked overall player and 9th-ranked setter in the 2028 class.     Nimmergut is a confident player; she is not afraid to reverse the flow of the offense or push a fast tempo set to the outside pin when the matchup is right. The Roosevelt prospect is crafty and makes good decisions- she will find the one-on-one attacker by holding the opposing middle. Nimmergut has a solid platform defensively and has the length to make plays at the net as a blocker and attacker.     Bruinsma is a lefty setter and right side from Kamiakin, and she is a long, athletic athlete who may already measure over 6-foot. She was terrific connecting with her middles for terminal swings and putting up a terrific block on the right pin for Club Gold during the club season. Bruinsma comes from an athletic family and has the frame to add strength as she makes her way through Kamiakin. She is currently the 8th-ranked setter in the 2028 rankings.     Matchett is a rising sophomore with excellent size for the position, and she showed the ability to track down the second ball on the run when she comes off the net as a setter. She worked hard as a blocker and attacker from the right side for Kokua, displaying excellent positional versatility. Matchett is part of a very competitive Ridgeline program that will be defending their Greater Spokane League title and 3A State Championship.    <h2 class="wp-block-heading">ENTER & UPDATE STATS DURING HIGH SCHOOL!</h2>   We love to see results and statistics updated, whether online on a team's individual website, and in a perfect world, every team in the state of Washington would have accurate and timely information posted to a site like MaxPreps. Let's celebrate the players who pass career milestones or have a huge night in a crucial match. Parents and players, encourage your coaches to upload as much data as they can; they just may need a volunteer (like you!) to help with the process. Did a team or player have a great performance?
