IL Freshman Showcase’s Can’t-Miss Competitors

<!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>There was so much talent at the Illinois Freshman Showcase that was held in Elgin this past Sunday Aug 3rd. From the Prep Dig Scouts in attendance to the coaches and directors working with these ladies, we were all in agreement that the freshman class was impressive. Drills were competitive, everyone was working so hard, and the scrimmages and gameplay was awesome to watch.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Top Performers were given out at the showcase, even though these players didn't receive that accolade, they very well could have. These 5 girls were impressive in their own right and have bright futures ahead. She is a DS/L who brought a lot of hustle and skill. From the back row position she showed she could take a great swing on the ball as well. Displayed a nice sturdy platform for passing and read the court well. She caught my eye first with some nice low serves right above the net. She displayed nice soft hands for a setter and I even saw her take some swings as a hitter as well. She got quite a few touches while blocking and had some fantastic swings for kills. She was smart and seemed to have a great feel on what swing or hit to use. She looks like she can play on either hitter OH or RS. She has great lift and vertical for that OH role. She had more kills than I could count for the day. Explosive power and hitting and can spread the ball all over and around the court. Ella had a really nice feel as a setter, and I can tell she is coached well. Delivered quite a few dimes to her hitters during the showcase. Because of her height as a setter was able to get touches at the net on defense, and was able to save overpasses with tips as well. Ella has a great future ahead!</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- /wp:acf/evaluation-block --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>It was impressive to say the least, to see all the talent during this Freshman showcase. I noticed a lot of players able to do multiple things on the court. This is a testament to their work ethics and coaching that they are receiving. These ladies will be heading into their freshman season and will undoubtedly be making an impact at whatever high school they will be attending.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph -->
