Nebraska Visitors Shine at Iowa Up Next Showcase

<!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Consider this a glimpse into the future.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Even though I primarily patrol the Nebraska scene for Prep Network, I've been making frequent visits to Des Moines to check out the Iowa showcase circuit. These events have offered an invaluable glimpse at rising stars in the Hawkeye State, but not all of our standout athletes are local products. Case in point: a handful of players trekked across the Missouri River with me to be at our Iowa Up Next Showcase.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>The Next Up Showcase featured athletes who will rise to the high school ranks as soon as next year. Parkley carries the banner for the Class of 2030 and brought back memories of Paisley Douglas' tremendous defensive skills with the SkyHawks. The newest Douglas iteration had a strong backcourt presence during team drills and brought infectious energy as soon as positional work began. [program_tooltip program_id='428743' first='VCNebraska' last=''] 13 Elite took full advantage of Douglas' defensive leadership this spring, leading to some high-profile triumphs at national qualifiers. This future Shelby-Rising City standout proved she has the ceiling and determination to be an elite scorer at the prep level. Cattau wielded impressive cross-court heat during Saturday's hitting lines and translated that into effective termination in an in-game environment. Hinze carried the torch for Premier Nebraska 13 Black this year and has a bright future in the stacked Omaha scene. She initially captured our attention through serve-receive drills and defensive gauntlets, but Hinze can also channel her whippy arm in the front row. This versatility embodies the spirit of Prep Dig showcases as players are rapidly put through changing scenarios and situations. McAfee represented Nebraska Elite's top 14s squad last year and showed impressive finesse at the setter spot in Des Moines. Connecting with unfamiliar hitters in a showcase environment is difficult, but McAfee made it happen and exhibited outstanding maturity in the process. This high-flying outside hitter just completed a stellar club campaign with Premier Nebraska 12 Gold and had some of the biggest hops at this weekend's showcase. Rangel's shot variety far exceeds her years, and she was an exceptional all-around teammate during six-on-six drills. Her trip to Des Moines gave us an early introduction to her incredible athleticism--all while Rangel's development is just getting started.
