CORALVILLE, Iowa – There were standouts at every position at this week's Prep Dig Iowa Sizzle. In review, none of those spots outshined the setters. The group was filled with talented student-athletes from different classifications and grade levels, an excellent preview to teams in good shape there for 2025.

[player_tooltip player_id='389006' first='Carsyn' last='Kelley'] (Evansville commit) looked right at home with Assumption, which might have been the team that most impressed me relative to classification. The Pleasant Valley transfer shared a connection with several Knights from club ball, and, honestly, she would have set well whether she knew her teammates or not. Kelley's height, athleticism, long arms and ever-developing skills allow her to stand out now and give her intriguing potential going forward.

Denver played on the second day of the two-day event. The defending Class 2A state champions return a lot, including super setter, [player_tooltip player_id='389012' first='Channing' last='Johnson'], the leading assister from a year ago. The Wayne State commitment played sharp here, displaying accuracy on her deliveries and high-end athletic ability. Johnson has learned how to maximize her height and long arms at the position during the last couple of seasons, allowing her to impact matches in multiple areas.

Like Kelley and Johnson, [player_tooltip player_id='243457' first='Emily' last='Henderson'] already has established herself as an all-state level performer. The South Dakota School of Mines pledge ranked 16th in the state in assists in 2024. Henderson has set her teammates up well for years and improved at it. But she's really developed her all-around game to inflict damage on the opponent from elsewhere.

Put [player_tooltip player_id='316380' first='Hadley' last='Miller'] in the group of veteran setters that have gotten the job done for years. The Iowa City Liberty junior understands how to play the position well from a technical standpoint, which leads to consistency. Miller has steadily improved in setting up her teammates and really advanced other areas of her game. She can end points at the net and defend the back row at a high level.

Humboldt's [player_tooltip player_id='545946' first='Addison' last='Waldorf'] keeps raising her level of play each time I scout her. You can tell she's working on her game because it's becoming more consistently good. This week, she regularly found ways to get the ball to the pins no matter the pass on a regular basis. Waldorf also has improved on serve-receive and defense at the net, putting her on track to all-state status.

Cedar Rapids Kennedy received a breakout performance from Charley Lovell last season. She showed this week that her junior year should be even better. Lovell was connected with her attackers. With her height and length, she can impact matches beyond setting up her teammates.

Like Lovell, Lila Eastvold was one of the Mississippi Valley Conference's breakout players last season. In the mold of others on this list, Eastvold brings a broad set of skills to the position. And like them, she benefits from being tall with long arms. The Trojans have added firepower in the front row, and Eastvold could feast.

Mid-Prairie has the luxury of having multiple sound options at setter. [player_tooltip player_id='215390' first='Jovi' last='Evans'] does that and just about everything else on the court for the Golden Hawks. [player_tooltip player_id='753942' first='Avery' last='Helmuth'] looked much-improved here this week, and [player_tooltip player_id='808755' first='Jeorgia' last='Evans'] can play the position effectively as well.

Norwalk's [player_tooltip player_id='493974' first='Hadley' last='Michael'] and Waterloo West's Allyson Landers stood out as two of the most consistently good setters last season. I didn't get to see a lot of [player_tooltip player_id='849192' first='Ellie' last='Nielsen'] and [player_tooltip player_id='551847' first='Averi' last='Nielsen'] during the one day Williamsburg was here, but that duo can get it done, too.
