Boys Volleyball Spotlight: Underclassmen Hidden Talent

With more programs, competitive clubs, and talented young athletes stepping into the spotlight, the boys' game is building serious momentum. </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>For our first boys volleyball feature, we connected with local clubs and coaches in San Diego to uncover hidden underclassmen talent. He has been playing volleyball for the past 4 years. He has overcome many challenges with his volleyball journey and from those challenges he became a vital player for his high school and club team. As an OPPO he has a solid block and he makes smart shots and strong swings. He also got named MVP last year at the end of his season with his leading stats! You can watch his highlight videos but I would say to watch him in person game play! </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Matthew was not only a huge impact as a physical athlete on the court but also as a captain of his team. His serve receive and defense is very impressive! He has an aggressive attitude to make sure he is always getting the first ball and settable for his setter. He is very disciplined in getting to his defensive spot. His read on defense is superb and moves very quickly on the court to dig the ball! His communication on the court to let his teammates know whats happening on the court amazing! His teammates trust him when he is on the court to get every ball! He has received awards for Libero of the Year, Defensive Player of the Year and 1st Team All League!</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Zach is also very focused on his academics. He is new to the club world of volleyball but that didn't stop him with his skill and determination! He has experience in beach volleyball which helps tremendously in the indoor game! His freshmen year he was put on varsity and the team won CIF and went to State! He has been a huge asset to his high school team being a huge block and hitter on the Right Side. His favorite shots are hitting down the LINE! He is excited to play his first official club season with [program_tooltip program_id='429573' first='Wave' last='Volleyball Club'] on the 16-1 Team. <br><br>He is a very determined, and high achiever on the court and in class! <br>He has a GPA of 4.13<br>Intended Major: Undecided<br><br>Keep your eye on him! His coach in high school saw his potential, passion and determination on the court and introduced him to playing club. Which got him to tryout at [program_tooltip program_id='429573' first='Wave' last='Volleyball Club'] and made their 16-1 Team. During his high school his sophomore year his team made it to CIF and went all the way to Regional Finals! <br><br>Watching him on the court he is always ready and involved in every play. He is always ready to block and always available to be set. And when he gets that set he is determined to put the ball away! </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Not only is he a hardworking athlete, he is also a hard working student. He has exceptional court awareness and high Volleyball IQ. His sets are very PRECISE!! He has over 300 assist during his last club season! Not only he has great performance on the court but he is also the captain of his team and leads with great character.
