Coaches, Early-Season Stat Leaders You Need to Know

The first few weeks of the season have already highlighted a group of players separating themselves on the stat sheet. From high-efficiency hitters to defensive anchors at the net and in the back row, these athletes are proving their impact early. Whether it's piling up kills, controlling the block, or keeping rallies alive with digs, they're showing why they'll be names to watch all season long.    Abby, out of Carson HS, currently sits first in the state for hitting efficiency (.395) and is the reigning 5A North Player of the Year. She had a standout 2024 season and continues to be a banger at the net. Her approach is textbook, getting her full body behind the swing, opening up and whipping across her body to just rip the ball. Her swing speed is too fast for most blocks, and on top of that, she can pass at a high level. Committed. Adelphi University. --Kantessa Bryant-Miller @prepdignv     Tamara's spot in the top five for hitting efficiency is no surprise. Seeing her in person, you immediately recognize her as a powerful yet crafty hitter. She ranks second in the state with a .381 hitting percentage and is one of her team's go-to options. She's one of those players you can count on to convert a kill at a high rate, and her efficiency numbers back it up. Not only can she put the ball away, but she's also capable of playing all six rotations effectively. --Kantessa Bryant-Miller @prepdignv     Kimber, ranked fifth in the state for kills, has gone from a rising talent to a standout pin hitter. She puts her entire body into the attack with a smooth approach and high arm swing. A key role player for Shadow Ridge, she leads her team in both kills and kills per set. Kimber is hitting .221 on the season, continuing to establish herself as a reliable offensive weapon. --Kantessa Bryant-Miller @prepdignv     Abby ranks third in the state for blocks and looks poised to stay among the top five thanks to her strong defensive presence at the net. She's also an aggressive hitter and highly effective middle, who played a major role in her club team's success. At Faith Lutheran, Abby has been just as impactful, helping her squad break into the top ten this week with several key wins recently. --Kantessa Bryant-Miller @prepdignv     Darby, ranked fourth in the state for blocking, has developed into a force in the middle. After a strong club season with high-level team, Vegas Aces 16 Ren, she carried that same mindset and momentum into high school. She's a key contributor on both blocks and kills and can run nearly any middle attack. Her presence has helped Gorman start their push toward a third straight state championship. --Kantessa Bryant-Miller @prepdignv     Veanka is a very solid libero and a key piece for Las Vegas' varsity squad. Currently ranked #2 in the state for digs, she continues to showcase the skill and consistency that keep her near the top. Her reading ability allows her to get the ball up with intentional angles and constant movement all over the court.
