It was encouraging to see those student-athletes and others shine even brighter when I watched the Tigers at Iowa City West's Live Like Line Tournament in early September.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Grinnell challenges itself against a difficult schedule each season. She's steadily improved all areas of her game and has the ability to take over the competition when she gets cooking. That's also been the case when watching her on the club circuit, where she faces off with other good players in her age group. Nolton led the Tigers with 264 kills a year ago and was pacing them again with 118 through the teams first 17 contests of 2025. She also ranked second with 25.0 blocks and was third in digs with 53. Those statistics are representative of Nolton's commitment to becoming a strong all-around player. Smith boasts a strong feel for the back row with instincts and reactions that keep her in plays. She moves well laterally and gets a clear read on the ball. Smith understands the importance of communication in her position and does a strong job helping make sure the Tigers are on the same page. In watching her compete at Iowa City West's Live Line Line Tournament in early September of 2025, her improvements from club were obvious. Sherman maximizes here skills by being technically sound. She repeats her operation on the attack, helping lead to consistency. Her 104 kills through 17 matches ranked second among Tigers. Nath performed well when I saw her at Iowa City West's Live Like Line Tournament in early September. Grinnell matched up with high-end competition during the event. Nath has a good feel for where her attackers like the ball and executes getting it there. She communicates well and smoothly works her way through traffic to each of her spots. It makes her impactful as a two-way middle. Opponents must respect her attack and block despite the Tigers threatening pins. Gosselink has improved her overall volleyball skills during the last year, increasing the power in her swing and becoming a better defender. Her reads on the opposing attack are more consistent and clearer, which led to her pacing Grinnell in blocks through 17 matches of 2025. I left the gym impressed with the freshman's current production as the Tigers' second setter and the potential for her future. Laug had logged 102 assists in her first 17 varsity matches. The freshman plays with poise and focus. That was evident with how she communicated and ran the show with veterans around her.
