11th Region Takeaways

With 11th Regional play in process, we've got to see which players have stepped up for their team when needed! Post regular season play brings excitement and shines the spotlight on the top athletes who are bringing their top game and revealing potential. We saw Lexington Catholic under coach Jeff Kaufmann who was recently named Region 11 Coach of the Year, defeat Frederick Douglas to advance to the Championship Round where they will meet Paul Laurence Dunbar in the 11th Region Finals coached by Jenni Morgan. <a href="https://prepdig.com/player/miller-duncan-2/">[player_tooltip player_id='535172' first='Miller' last='Duncan']</a> has returned to the court and brings an arsenal of talent to the front line with setter <a href="https://prepdig.com/player/charlotte-hall-2/">[player_tooltip player_id='603863' first='Charlotte' last='Hall']</a> and pins <a href="https://prepdig.com/player/payton-avilez/">[player_tooltip player_id='212388' first='Payton' last='Avilez']</a> and <a href="https://prepdig.com/player/ella-blackburn/">[player_tooltip player_id='212387' first='Ella' last='Blackburn']</a> for Catholic. While standouts <a href="https://prepdig.com/player/sadie-stuart/">[player_tooltip player_id='276177' first='Sadie' last='Stuart']</a>, <a href="https://prepdig.com/player/mia-pendley/">[player_tooltip player_id='535210' first='Mia' last='Pendley']</a>, Ava Martha and [player_tooltip player_id='484320' first='Peyton' last='Beatty'] took up their regular job of excellent play and top contributors for Dunbar defeating Great Crossing to advance. The two talented teams will again meet in an epic showdown in the Championship round! Here are a few names that might not be advancing but turn heads, and some who we will continue to watch toward State Finals.    [player_tooltip player_id='741875' first='Maddy' last='Warner'] has you covered and then some! We can't say enough good things about this athlete's play that will do her justice. She digs balls that seem impossible and makes accurate passes from them, she holds down the line in the back row as a huge contributor to her team! She covers the block so well and so fast, so consistently that it's like second nature to her. She knows where to position herself to get the first contact on those hard cross court shots sending them up with ease and gives her team every possible chance to play on. She puts in an excellent effort on court and has tremendous court IQ to get there fast! Gamechanger!     Maryn is a light that shines bright. She has talent that will take her far and looks to be on her way. She has great court IQ making herself available for all plays and quickly positions herself to do so. She has excellent mechanics in all of her skills with a great swing and timing with her blocks. She shows a ton of progression throughout the season and is confident in her play. Keep tabs on this one for sure!     A freshman with a bright future Clarke has excelled at her position and made some impressive plays. She oozes confidence and runs the court masterfully for her age. She holds the cards and knows when to play them to pin or middle making sound decisions with great technique, she digs well from the back row and brings a ton of energy to her game. She holds a lot of versatility to her play with all equally impressive sets to get the job done. She is going up the ladder in a big way.     Gabby makes a difference on the court. She is imposing size wise but brings that added respect at the net that makes the opposition pay more attention. With a strong left handed swing that she utilizes she has honed her skills to place a crafty cross court shot, hit down the line or give a well placed tip. She has become one to watch on the court. She puts up solid blocks, and makes the opponents pins think twice about their swing. She stepped up with great play and craftiness for her team. Looking forward to see her club play.     Logan stepped up this season with excellent play and energy to the court. She gives an all out effort every set and it shows. She can produce an excellent vertical in blocks with stellar form and will get past the block with her fast swing. She never stops moving and lays herself out to make plays happen. She produces and gives consistent effort on the court with smart court play and good rapport with her teammates. She is solid in her play and work ethic, we loved her play!
