Junior year is a crucial one for prep volleyballers looking to play the sport on the next level. Colleges begin pairing down the recruiting boards and zeroing on on their top targets.

In Iowa, a good chunk of prospects in the 2027 Class have found their future homes. Others have continued proving they were worthy of scholarship offers. That's especially been true at setter.

Here's a closer look at uncommitted juniors at the position that I've not yet written about this season:

I've scouted Caffery on the club circuit the last few years and have been impressed with her consistency. She's not flashy but makes winning plays as a setter in control of the action. Caffery connects the back and front rows by getting to her spots and turning whatever passes she receives into usable offerings for the attack. Caffery is a smart player that learns from opponent tendencies as the match goes on and takes advantage of areas that can be exploited. Caffery reads plays well as they develop and actively communicates with teammates. Through 76 sets in 2025, she had handed out 730 assists with 208 digs, 67 kills and 17.0 blocks.

Seaman has been a star for the Muskies since she enrolled in high school. She's already one of the program's all-time greats with another season to go. This year, she leads Muscatine in assists, kills and blocks, while ranking second in digs. It's a complete skill set at the position. She can contribute whatever her team needs to succeed. Setter is her home, however. She operates at that spot for the state's top club team in her age group. Seaman provides a settling presence in the system, doing her best to maximize her squad's opportunities by feeding the attack the from position all around the court. Seaman has a high volleyball IQ and takes advantage of what opponents are giving up.

Michael has made steady progress at the position, working hard to sharpen her skills throughout the years. It's paying off again this season, when she had handed out 662 assists through Norwalk's first 73 sets. She'd added 39 kills, 128 digs and 21.0 blocks, proving she could impact matches from various locations on the court. Michael does well in reading what the defense is doing as plays develop. She's adept at dumping the ball into the donut when spotting the opening. With long arms and good timing, her block is effective. Michael consistently gets the ball up when attacked and moves into position when a cover is needed.

Meester was effectively running the operation for a Wolverine outfit once again a contender in Class 2A. Through the team's first 72 sets of 2025, she'd dished out 645 assists. With 47 kills (.337) and 184 digs, Meester was contributing a lot to Dike-New Hatford's success. Athleticism and agility help her adjust to errant passes. She also processes information quickly to direct the attack where she identifies advantages. Meester picks her spots when it comes to ending points with a dump or quick swing. She's an asset defensively with her quickness and reflexes in the back row.

I've scouted Pollock on the club circuit the last few years. Her development has had a nice trajectory to it. Pollock stands out for her steadiness. She limits unforced errors and holds her focus throughout matches. Pollock also has experienced a great deal of success on the prep level. During Janesville's first 81 sets this season, she was responsible for 627 assists, 30 kills and 140 digs. Pollock has improved on adjusting to overpasses and odd balls near the net, including a knack for winning jousts and exploiting holes in the defense with dumps. A solid defender in the back, Pollock helps squelch opponent attacks and puts her team back on the offensive.

I ended up seeing Ricke's Impact team compete a lot during the club campaign. Her versatility as a volleyballer stood out as a key asset. Ricke does a great job running the show when lining up at setter. She can perform all the important tasks as that position and takes on the necessary leadership role, which includes key communication. As an added bonus, Ricke can contribute to the attack with a strong swing at the pins. Her skill set demands opponents' attention at all times. Through Johnston's first 73 sets of 2025, Ricke had handed out 581 assists with 130 digs, 22 kills and 14.0 blocks. She's athletic and moves well, her height and long arms also helping her get the job done.
