4A Recap, Reaction: North Scott Takes Down No. 1

She'd been sick last weekend. Then she spent a couple of hours on Wednesday screaming over the crowd noise at Xtream Arena during the Class 4A state semifinals. </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>The North Scott senior didn't mind a little throat soreness while speaking with reporters after the match, however. She'd just helped the fifth-seeded [program_tooltip program_id='431978' first='Lancers' last=''] to a five-set upset of No. 1 Clear Creek Amana.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>"She's a gamer. There's not doubt about it," Lancer coach Brian Schubert said. "She loves the pressure. She wants to ball, but she also understands that it's a team sport, and she can't do it alone."</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Moeller a Southern Illinois commitment, cranked out 31 kills and picked up 17 digs. Setter [player_tooltip player_id='389008' first='Addison' last='Allen'] kept going to her, and her swing held its power throughout the match. When she couldn't get off a clean attack, she adjusted, which is a unique skill.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>"Outsides and pins, you kind of get the junk balls, out-of-system balls, and always being ready is important," she said. </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Allen understood the assignment of getting the ball to Moeller as often as possible.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>"Even if the ball isn't where it needs to be, she finds a way to get it down," Allen said. "She's just a phenomenal player. Anything that is thrown her way, she finds a way to overcome it. She's just an amazing player overall."</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Allen played pretty well, too. The senior pumped out 55 assists and came up with 22 digs. </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Clear Creek Amana was missing one of its top players in six-rotation standout [player_tooltip player_id='516002' first='Julia' last='Schlarbaum'] due to illness. The Clippers adjusted but ran into a determined North Scott outfit. </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>"It was difficult," senior setter [player_tooltip player_id='243457' first='Emily' last='Henderson'] said of her teammate's absence. "But people really stepped up where they needed to. Everybody tried really hard, and I'm really proud of us for that." </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Henderson did her part, handing out 39 assists, coming up with 16 digs and delivering seven kills.
