<p><strong>CORALVILLE -</strong> Last season, Sioux Center celebrated reaching the state tournament. Unfortunately, the stay was short lived with a first-round loss to Western Christian. </p>

<p>The Warriors weren't trying to feel that way again when they lined up for Monday's state quarterfinal match against Marion. They were hoping to hang around a bit. </p>

<p>It wasn't easy against a gritty Marion squad, but Sioux Center dug deep with the match tied, 1-1, and captured the next two sets for the win. </p>

<p>"Last year we got here and we kind of fell short in the first round," Warrior junior [player_tooltip player_id='816843' first='Maryn' last='Franken'] said. "Getting to be able to get past that milestone, getting a win here was very special." </p>

<p>Sioux Center was hurting itself from the service line through two sets. It improved there and in other areas of importance. </p>

<p>"We definitely needed to focus on keeping our serves in and then on our serve-receive," senior [player_tooltip player_id='575152' first='Courteney' last='Schmidt'] said. "That way we can get the ball in system, push speed and get Marion in their heels." </p>

<p>After dropping the second set, 25-19, the Warriors blitzed Marion, 25-14, in the third set. They finished the match off with 25-21 triumph in Set 4. </p>

<p>"We want to be aggressive. That's been a key. We don't want to play other people's game. We want to play our game," Sioux Center coach Julie Oldenkamp said. </p>

<p>Schmidt led the way with 21 kills, and she also chipped in with 15 digs. Franken had 17 kills and 19 digs, and [player_tooltip player_id='841522' first='Adison' last='Brantsen'] delivered 12 kills and 17 digs. </p>

<p>Freshman [player_tooltip player_id='759977' first='Abbey' last='Kirk'] led Marion with 14 kills to go with 17 digs. [player_tooltip player_id='753986' first='Grace' last='Whalen'] handed out 36 assists and had 18 digs, and [player_tooltip player_id='827511' first='Nayomi' last='Vasser'] had nine kills and two blocks. </p>
