–

We've made it to the second week of November. And you know what that means, we have crowned all 128 District Champions across the state of Michigan. It didn't come without a shortage of surprises, upsets and headlines. We were REALLY treated well this last week of postseason competition.

The Division 1 space was chock full of epic match ups that left those around the state stunned. Division 2 was another hot division full of big performances as well. Division 3 and 4 were a bit on the quieter side, but no need to worry, those headlines and surprise results are impending with the next week and a half to come!

Take a look below at some of biggest matches that took place in Division 1 and every other district final result throughout the four divisions below!

No. 3 Grand Rapids Christian downs No. 7 South Christian in Battle of the Titans

Again, why are we having top ten match ups like these occur so early in the road to Kellogg? Yes, Division 1 isn't the only one. In this match, it was the battle of two of the best teams in Division 2. Both of which with rich recent history. Since 2018, the Division 2 Final Four in Kellogg Arena has featured one of these teams with the exception of last season. Looking deeper into the pathway to Kellogg, whoever wins this match has a strong chance to make a deep run.

After dropping the first set to the Sailors, it was all smooth sailing for the Eagles of GRC. With the combination of [player_tooltip player_id='442982' first='Grace' last='Goodyke'] on the outside and [player_tooltip player_id='881552' first='Mya' last='McKinnon'] in the middle, the duo proved to be just too much for the opposition to contain.

For South Christian, [player_tooltip player_id='226876' first='Finley' last='Arp'] was batting at an outstanding clip, logging 15 kills and 14 digs, she couldn't get too much more help offensively throughout the match. Despite valiant defensive efforts, [player_tooltip player_id='761443' first='Meg' last='Schreur'] put up eye popping numbers in the back row with 34 digs on the match. A career high for the first year libero.

GRC continues their march to Kellogg with another tough battle in the Regional Semifinals with Holland Christian.

Niles Shocks No. 11 Edwardsburg in Five Sets

This may have been one of the biggest upsets of the Division. Edwardsburg looked poised to finally breakthrough and make a statement run for a program that has been rumbling under the radar, but here comes Niles, destroying all of those plans.

We've seen it in Division 1 more than we expected, the unranked underdog spoiling the plans for the ranked powerhouse. Niles came into this one with a mission and absolutely nothing to lose. It was a back and forth battle between the two teams. Each team was going blow for blow, it was eventually that nothing to lose mentality that propelled Niles past the favorite.

[player_tooltip player_id='700858' first='Nyla' last='Hover'] and [player_tooltip player_id='827516' first='Neriah' last='Stephens'] both had incredible nights for the Vikings. Hover led the action in kills from the pin with 12. Her crafty nature and laser vision for the open court was hard to defend. Alongside her, Stephens proved to be the perfect compliment that aided in opening up some room for Hover. She added on 6 kills of her own at a very efficient clip to go along with a handful of blocks.

Freshman setter Mena Hover played some of her best ball to date. As a player that is still so young, and in such a crucial position on the court, her steadiness in play was what really provided the spark for Niles. They'll go on to battle another team of players that had their own spoiler mission in Parma Western.

Parma Western Extinguish Red Hot No. 9 Marshall in a Sweep

While on paper, this looks to be an unranked team making the upset. But when you look at Parma Western, the pieces they have on the court and what they have done this season. This is very much a high level match and no shocker by the result. However, Marshall was coming into the post season with a LOT of fire. This is a district that feeds into a very sneaky good regional, we're only in for more excitement to come.

For this match, it was the story of balance versus a one woman show it seemed. Where Marshall relies heavily upon a singular attacker to bring in the points, Parma Western was seemingly coming at you from every angle imaginable. The pin to pin action was incredible, and their ability to hit from different zones on the court caused pure fits for Marshall.

It was a triple headed beast that did big work for the Panthers. With three attackers with over 10 kills in a three set match? It is a near impossible feat to overcome. Leading the way was '27 OH, [player_tooltip player_id='831699' first='Ella' last='Wilcox'] on the outside with 14 kills. And she wasn't just scoring from the left pin, oh no. Throw it up to her in the middle, let her rip some from the right pin and even in the back court. There was not a single shot that Wilcox didn't have to terminate.

Behind Wilcox, '26 OH [player_tooltip player_id='832908' first='Izzy' last='Schlundt'] and '29 S/OPP [player_tooltip player_id='741882' first='Georgia' last='Addleman'] both tabbed on 22 kills combined! The balanced offense from the Panther's side was just all too much for Marshall.

Despite a less than desired result, there is a lot for Marshall to be proud of and look forward too. We touched upon their one-woman show offensively, and she is only a freshman. In only her first ever playoff appearance, [player_tooltip player_id='812023' first='Brynn' last='Johnson'] put up 21 kills and dug 16 balls in the loss. In District play, she had over 40 kills and 30 digs through two matches of play.

No. 2 North Branch Sweeps No. 7 Imlay City in Top Ten Clash

[player_tooltip player_id='226888' first='Aubree' last='Deshetsky']

This is one clash that we have become accustomed to over the years and it is one that does not disappoint in terms of competition. But it is one that disappoints in the sense of we lose a really good team way too early on in the playoffs.

It has become much like clock work at this point, North Branch is going to win a district title. I mean, they have done it for 21 consecutive years now. It is just like any tradition now. There's Halloween, there's Christmas and there's North Branch winning a District. We've only ever come close to the streak ending so few times throughout this time.

Once again, the Bronco's were led by the seemingly unstoppable force of Miss Volleyball favorite, [player_tooltip player_id='226888' first='Aubree' last='Deshetsky']. The newest North Branch Career Kills record holder added on 22 kills throughout the sweep at an impressive pace. She was aided by younger sister, Alysse Deshetsky, who added seven kills in the match.

For Imlay City, it was the end of a once-in-a-generation class for the Spartans. One of the top players in the state, [player_tooltip player_id='226904' first='Emma' last='Keeping'] led the charge with 19 kills. Despite the sweep, her 19 kills was good enough to surpass her career high in kills against the Broncos of 18, a record she set back as a freshman. Leaving it all out on the court. Alongside her, [player_tooltip player_id='490335' first='Makayla' last='Bruman'], another elite talent ended with 6 kills and over 20 assists on the match.
