Prep Dig released an update of its 2028 Class rankings last week. With that, we've been freshening up the scouting reports on prospects in the recruiting cycle.

As mentioned in previous posts, members of the group have been steadily improving, and there's potential for much more. We've been doing our best to keep up with that progress.

Here's another batch of new write-ups with more on the way:

The City High sophomore is someone who I've scouted frequently during the last few years. Her improvement has been steady and thorough. She worked on and gotten better at all aspects of the sport. Schluckebier shines most as a multi-dimensional setter. She carries out her main responsibility of setting up teammates with consistency and precision. The Little Hawk and Rocket standout can deliver the ball sharply to any spot along the net and does a nice job reading the defense. As she's grown taller, she's better utilized her long arms on the block, success also aided by sharper timing. The growth also helps in her mounting an attack from the opposite pin. Schluckebier plays all out and through the whistle. It's been a steady climb with room to grow and develop before reaching her considerable potential.

I scouted Stien several times during the last club season and left those opportunities intrigued with her upside as a taller setter with long arms and athletic ability. She built on that foundation this fall for the Stormin Pointers, which received 410 assists, 220 kills, 247 digs and 29.0 blocks from the sophomore en route to a 22-14 season. It's obvious Stien works on improving all aspects of the game to make her more impactful and dangerous through six rotations. Already someone that regularly stands out in matches, it should attract college coaches that Stien has potential for much more. It will be a big club campaign for her as she looks to impress those staffs on the next level.

McDonald went from an under-utilized DS as a freshman at Xavier and in club ball last year to a lock-down back-rower for an Iowa City West team that reached the state tournament this fall. Like most liberos, she picked up her consistency, helping keep the Trojans in system in order to set up a talented group of hitters along the net. McDonald is improving at reading the opposing attack and identifying any tendencies from the other team, placing her in better positions to make plays. She's also gotten better delivering opportunities for the pins off of the two ball. McDonald was one of the state's most improved players in 2025, and she has chance to take another significant step forward in the new year.

Jackson is a player I've watched grow her skills during the last few years. She's developed into one of the state's top performers in the back row. Jackson covers a lot of ground and limits her errors on balls she reaches. She has improved her communication in helping keep her team on the same page. Her reading of the opposing attack and steadiness in serve receive are major reasons why those squads get to the attack cleanly. Jackson understands where the attackers like the set when taking the two ball. If she can take another step forward this club campaign, I'd expect plenty of calls from college coaches when the time comes next summer.

The 2028 class in Iowa might be deeper in non-pins than any in recent memory. Players like Ruddy are a big reason for that. Plenty of years she'd be ranked higher up on this list based on ability. The Waukee sophomore held it down in the back row this fall, ranking among the state's leaders with 525 digs. She managed that by sharpening all aspects of her skill set, achieving consistency with better reads and reactions. Her 71 assists speak to her improvement on setting the pins off of the two ball. Ruddy has accomplished a lot in developing into a college recruit, and she has room to grow into more, which should be exciting for scouts.

Kuemper reached the Class 3A state semifinals last month before falling to eventual champion Assumption. Heuton was a key component in the Knights' success. The sophomore ranked second on the squad with 269 kills (.233) and 53.0 blocks. In watching her in person at the state tournament, Heuton showed explosion off of the court followed by an impressive vertical leap, hang time and power in her swing. Her long arms help generate that velocity and also serve her well in throwing up the block. An excellent athlete, Heuton ran sprints on the Kuemper track team as a freshman last year.
