About Hazel

How would you briefly describe your gameplay style?

I'm a 5'10" lefty Setter/Opposite who loves running down anything playable. I also love playing on high energy and gritty teams, and am hoping to continue doing so in college.

Can you provide a brief description of your mentality or personality?

Volleyball has brought out the more outgoing side in me. I think it's important to have confidence and an uplifting attitude as a leader.

Are you involved in any clubs, organizations, or have you received any non-sport awards?

I've been playing club volleyball since 12U and currently play for Iowa Rockets in a 6-2. I've run a 5-1 offense as the starting varsity setter for the Iowa City High Little Hawks, racking up 1,048 Assists, 139 Kills, 48 Blocks, and 364 Digs. I'm also a varsity bowler for the Little Hawks and compete in the high jump during track season.

What skills or qualities have you developed, such as leadership, teamwork, or community service?

I was named 2024 Mississippi Valley Honorable Mention All-Conference and 2024 Your Prep Sports Freshman of the Year after my freshman season at Iowa City High. I received Mississippi Valley Second-Team All-Conference honors in 2025. My time playing volleyball has taught me lessons as a leader, and I was nominated for "LeadHers," an organization at Iowa City High designed to uplift female athletes.

Have you faced any significant challenges? If so, please describe.

I sprained an ankle a week prior to high school season, and during high school season I sprained the opposite one. Spending time on the bench while my team played taught me how I can make an impact as a leader even when I'm not on the court.

Another setter who finds a way to set and score points, Hazel Schluckebier Hazel Schluckebier Hazel Schluckebier 5'10" | S/RS Iowa City | 2028 State IA out of Iowa City is a dynamic, left-handed combo player.  She has been playing for Iowa Rockets 16R where they have been a highly competitive USA Division team.  I like the savviness of her game, she plays with great composure and maturity.  As a right side, she knows how to make a smart shot – she finds the openings and knows how to use the block.  As a setter, she knows how to utilize her middles.  The combination of her and Kylee Suhr Kylee Suhr Kylee Suhr 6'0" | MB/OH Williamsburg | 2028 State IA has been fun to watch evolve over this qualifier season.
