Austin Kingsley | Prep Dig Scout
We can always count on RVA Roots providing some defensive talent for our Iowa showcases. Ruddy kept the tradition alive with her brand of backcourt effort that uplifted everyone around her. Aside from all the eye-popping digs she made in six-on-six scrimmages, Ruddy also provided pinpoint passing to help her teammates run a smooth offense. Her six-dig-per-set campaign with Waukee High School this fall was just the beginning of Ruddy’s ascent among Iowa’s 2028s.

The 2028 class in Iowa might be deeper in non-pins than any in recent memory. Players like Ruddy are a big reason for that. Plenty of years she’d be ranked higher up on this list based on ability. The Waukee sophomore held it down in the back row this fall, ranking among the state’s leaders with 525 digs. She managed that by sharpening all aspects of her skill set, achieving consistency with better reads and reactions. Her 71 assists speak to her improvement on setting the pins off of the two ball. Ruddy has accomplished a lot in developing into a college recruit, and she has room to grow into more, which should be exciting for scouts.

Waukee is a team to watch in 2025 because of a talented young core that led the Warriors to the state tournament this Fall. Her 212 digs were a team-best. The total trailed only Amling and Rude among 5A freshmen. Ruddy reads the ball and her teammates really well. It’s a key to keeping Waukee in system so its heavy hitters can prosper. Her 23 service aces also ranked among the Top 10 for ninth-graders in 5A.
