Five Kansans Ready To Star In Holiday Film Marathon
In this article:
Some folks would call me a traditionalst.
Others would argue that I am a complete nontraditionalist.
All I know is when it comes to sports, movies, music, and books, I am an OG,
Each year, there is a special day in December. No, it's not Christmas Day. I never know for sure when it will come, but I know it will.
December 19, 2025, is my annual special day this year.
It's time to binge-watch some of my favorite movies of all time. Whether it's a traditional holiday film or far from it, the DVD player is on, some popcorn has been popped, and I have a pint of Häagen-Dazs Chocolate Ice Cream to smash.
This movie-themed scouting report was partially inspired by Kansas Sports Chatter host Cole Reif, whose show I was on yesterday.
I have made this a "Free Report." Like homemade peanut butter balls, white chocolate-dipped pretzels, and Nutter Butter Santa Cookies, this was a real treat to write.
It will be my last Prep Dig Report until December 23. On that day, I will have a super special holiday-themed report, so mark your calendar and come back to Prep Dig next Tuesday, if not before.
Now grab your Milk Duds, Peanut M&Ms, Dots, Gummy Bears, or whatever your favorite movie candy is, and prepare to sit back and enjoy.
The movie marathon always starts with the same flick, 1988's Die Hard, the G.O.A.T. of holiday movies. If anyone on the Prep Scene compares to the star of the show, John McLane, it's Ellinwood's Maxwell. While I can't see the small-school prospect living in Los Angeles, or throwing someone off the Nakatomi Building, she is wily and crafty enough to play the hero cop role. Maxwell can set, hit, play solid defense, and walk through glass with bare feet. She helped lead the Eagles to an undefeated state championship season. Maxwell is ranked No. 7 overall in the Kansas Class of 2028. Yippee-ki-yay, Pep Dig Fans!

The second movie in the marathon is 1987's Lethal Weapon. This movie set the standard for the "cop-buddy" genre, and it only makes since that the 2026 All-Female Reboot would star

as the daughter of Martin Riggs (Mel Gibson). Riggs is a stand-up, stand-out hitter who happens to be ranked No. 1 overall in the Kansas Class of 2027. She is, however, the complete opposite of Martin Riggs, as she plays a disciplined and poised style of ball. Plus, this Riggs could handle the pressure and workload of acting in multiple sequels since Mill Valley is a perennial state contender.

To completely flip the script and genre, my wife and I always watch Disney's 1960 version of The Swiss Family Robinson on Christmas Day. Addi would be one of the stars of the newest reboot, "The Kansas Family Wisdom." The Wisdoms are an institution at Maize High School. The volleyball genes run deep in Addi's game, as they do with her sisters Zoe and Ellie. The handy thing about the Eagle prospect acting in this movie is that we can film the scenes with elephants, tigers, ostriches, and donkeys at the Sedgwick County Zoo. Like the first two films in this report, this movie lends itself to " the holiday movie or not debate." The SFR cast sings "O Christmas Tree" in the flick, so that qualifies it for me! Wisdom is ranked No. 19 overall in the Kansas Class of 2028. Happy Christmas!

Now that I have watched my favorite "family movie," I want to be scared. Therefore, Blue Valley Northwest's Campbell will replace Neve Campbell in a remake of 1996's Scream. I scouted Campbell for the first time on the recent Prep Dig Exposure Tour, and the comps have been in my head ever since. Campbell is as tough as Houston Oilers' great Earl Campbell, and has a reach like former L.A. Laker forward Elden Campbell, who passed away earlier this month. She also has an infectious personality, like Detroit Lions' coach and Applebee's commercial star Dan Campbell. Seriously, I CAN just keep going on like this for days. Maybe I will have a grilled cheese sandwich with some Campbell's Tomato Soup for supper! This Campbell, who can play rightside and middle, is set to debut in the Kansas Class of 2029 rankings next month.

I will wrap up this movie marathon by watching the underrated tearjerker, 1982's Savannah Smiles. When I want to watch a show that will make me cry, this is at the top of the list. Jeff West's Jackson is the unheralded glue on a team loaded with top-ranked Kansas talent. While I hope she never runs away from home or gets falsely kidnapped, Jackson's game only makes me smile. She can set and play solid backrow defense. Like this film's underrated supporting actor, Pat Morita, Jackson is just waiting for her chance to be in a starring role. Morita, two years later, would go on to star in 1984's The Karate Kid as Mr. Miyagi. Jackson has the skills to play a significant role at the college level. She is ranked No. 98 overall in the Kansas Class of 2027.
