Manhattan Mayhem 14-1: They’re A Family Affair

She led the Mayhem in kills with six. She also finished with six digs and four serve receptions in the team's opening match of the day. I don't love making comps between siblings, but I think she has a longer reach and might be a tick quicker than her older sister. Although she is still young, raw, and has a bunch of volleyball ahead of her. She is aggressive on the court and can play six rotations.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id='913257' first='Ellie' last='Bruna']</strong>, 5'6”, OH/MB, Hanover, ‘30</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Bruna has a cousin on the team, plus an older sister and older cousin who each won a state championship with the Hanover Wildcats this fall. The family cupboard is far from bare. Ellie has a seriousness about her game that I really like. She looked more like she was on a hunt for live game rather than playing in an early club match. She had the proverbial “Eye of the Tiger.” The intense Bruna was used only in the front row. She can jump and has a lethal serve.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id='923744' first='Breckyn' last='Carr']</strong>, 5'5”, DS/L, Beloit, ‘30</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>I have watched plenty of prospects from Beloit, and the young ladies must be drinking some type of special “volleyball-skilled drink” in the Northwestern Kansas town. Carr had a team-high eight serve receptions in the match to go along with five digs. She wore the libero jersey in this match. She also has a nice serve with some spicy mustard on it. I understand she has played setter with her middle school team and could play either position in high school.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id='913259' first='Emma' last='Hiltgen'], </strong>5'7”, S/RS, Linn, ‘30</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Hiltgen is another familiar name, but asking whether she was a sister or cousin to Prep Dig-ranked [player_tooltip player_id='913297' first='Sophia' last='Hiltgen'] slipped my mind. She is crazy athletic and brings versatility to the court. She had six assists in the match, although Manhattan used multiple setters, so that number could be off a little. She had four digs and a team-high four aces. Her serve is a heat-seeker that is tough to receive. I liked the speed at which she can play the game.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id='913260' first='Kynslee' last='Nelson']</strong>, 5'9”, MB, Riley County, ‘30</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Nelson arguably was one of the more physical players I saw on Saturday. She has the tools to develop into a net monster. She finished with three kills and one block. She played front row only for the Mayhem. She has long reach and a physical frame. Riley County is a program I have not seen much of, so she was a refreshing new face to scout.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph -->
