My 2026 club volleyball season started early this morning.

I traveled to Lawrence to scout two 14U Power League Qualifying matches before a family Christmas gathering this afternoon.

Yeah, I know my calendar is a mess, but the parents reading this will understand, and the young ones reading it will learn one day that you fit events in where you can.

The first match of the morning was a two-set win by Shockwave 14-1 over Metro Performance 14-1.

I will mostly watch 14U teams play this club season as I begin to put together the first rankings for the Kansas Class of 2030.

Prep Dig Profiles have been created for each athlete featured.

Athletes are encouraged to claim their “Free” profiles and add profile pics, game highlights, and contact information. Athletes with completed profiles will get a slight advantage early in the ranking process. Athletes can use the link below to claim their profiles.

Here are five Wichita-area athletes who stood out in the Shockwave's opening victory.

This is the first of three reports that will cover the two matches.

[player_tooltip player_id='894231' first='Reese' last='Baty'], 5'9”, OH/RS, Maize, ‘30

Baty posted the most impressive performance of the morning. She played six rotations for Shockwave and was all over the stat sheet. She finished with a team-high 12 kills and chipped in three digs, three serve receptions, and two aces. She has an accurate serve, jumps well, and is a natural athlete. I was impressed with how she played under control and was able to set the pace of the match. She also deserves credit for creating her own Prep Dig profile prior to the event, which caught my attention before I even stepped into the gym. That's how one gets ahead of the game in today's crazy youth sports and college recruiting world. It is extremely early in the process, but I would wager that she will debut somewhere in the Top 10 in the initial rankings. She plans to attend Maize High School.

[player_tooltip player_id='923731' first='Haddie' last='Spies'], 5'1”, DS/L, Rose Hill, ‘30

The surprise of the morning was Speis. She is a spunky defensive specialist with a nasty serve. She is stronger and more physical than she first appears. She also has quick feet and communicated well during the early 8:00 a.m. wake-up call match. She finished with five digs and five serve receptions. She intends to attend Rose Hill High School, which is a program I don't know much about.

[player_tooltip player_id='923730' first='Olivia' last='Bergkamp'], 5'5”, DS/L, Bishop Carroll, ‘30

Bishop Carroll is a historically talented high school program, and they have a youngster in the pipeline who will look to compete for playing time upon her arrival on campus. Bergkamp sported the Shockwave's Pink Libero Jersey, which makes a statement with the traditional, gold and black club colors. If the jersey had not caught my eye, her game certainly would have. She finished with team-high totals of eight digs and 11 serve receptions. She has a quiet platform and has quick feet.

[player_tooltip player_id='877271' first='Charlotte' last='Muich'], 5'7”, S/DS, Kapaun Mt. Carmel, ‘30

Muich, who goes by "Charlie,"was another familiar name before I made it to the gym. She also created her own Prep Dig profile. She is super quick, tall, and rangy. She can help out in all facets of the game. She can play six rotations. The vision of her and [player_tooltip player_id='747422' first='Collyns' last='Livermore'] (the No. 1-ranked athlete in the Kansas Class of 2029) on the same team already has a dangerous outlook with lots of future possible wins for Kapaun. She recorded seven assists, five digs, and one block in the Shockwave win.

[player_tooltip player_id='923753' first='Meyah' last='Moutray'], 5'8”, OH/RS, Andover, ‘30

Moutray is a sneaky lefty who can hammer the ball. She can really jump, and has a future net monster already written in pencil on her resume. She tallied two kills, two blocks, one dig, and one serve reception in the match against Metro Performance. I liked her approach and see a ton of potential in the Andover prospect.
