On December 13, we visited the FAST Complex, home to the highly respected [program_tooltip program_id='431166' first='Houston' last='Juniors'] Club, one of the venues for the traditional season-opening tournament, the FAST Warm-Up, which this season featured over 300 teams in 13 divisions that competed across four venues in the Houston area.

We followed the matches of the 15 Open Division, which took place in the morning and featured 12 teams, representing 11 clubs from the Houston and Austin areas.

It was exciting to see a new wave of players enter the 15s age group, and I'm now ready to report on the ones who stood out the most in their respective positions. Setters go first:

Rapp set for the AP 15 Adidas team that finished second in the division with four wins and two losses. A six-footer, she combined nice physical and technical tools, running their offense with intelligence and efficiency. Rapp was very good at using her middles in the right moments and wasn't afraid to feed them in transition, generating many easy kills for her hitters. The setter also served very well, getting opponents out of system and going on nice runs from the service line.

Jackson and her AJV 15 Adidas team ended the tournament in third place, with a campaign of four wins and one loss. Her game was very technical and smooth, as even when working with passes off the net, she was still able to keep their offense in system. Jackson moved very well on the court and used her firm and talented setter hands to remain accurate with her locations, while also standing out for her balanced distribution. The setter also played strong defense at the right back position and generated transition plays for her side.

Watson was with AVA TX 15 Adidas and helped the team rank seventh with two wins and three losses. A tall and consistent setter, she did well with her ball handling and ran a steady, well-diversified offense for them. Watson took on hitting duties at times and showed good vision to help her team and score points, finding nice angles for her swings and tooling the block when needed. She also acted as a team leader on the court, communicating constantly and efficiently with her teammates.

Sodolak played for the T4VBC 15 Elite team that tied for ninth with one win and four losses. She displayed solid playmaking skills, using her talented setter hands to move hitters around and make things difficult for blockers across the net. Sodolak was also crafty with her setter dumps, as, despite not being tall, she did a good job of finding good locations and catching opposing defenders off guard. The setter was also a great asset on the back row, serving tough and playing excellent defense.

Reed's [program_tooltip program_id='431337' first='Texas' last='Tornados'] 15 Adidas team had a difficult weekend, dropping all five matches to rank 11th in the division. But she still found a way to stand out in the team's inconsistent play. Working almost exclusively with passes off the net, Reed showed impressive athleticism to chase them and solid technical skills to do a good job of still getting hittable sets at the pins. Her superior physical skills and quickness also showed well on defense, as she managed to come up with some impressive digs.
